Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Willing something to be true, don’t make it true ;)

Canada cannot hope to fight the US, it’s just math and mass.

Just make it that there is zero reason nor an incentive for some asshat like our current President to try to do so.

Without will, nothing else.

I thought the normal lifecycle of warships involved spending a third of their time in refit (ie. not at sea)? The RN does need more warships, but those at sea figures don’t seem unusual.

Correct. But, the Type 23's are starting to spend more time in refit than usual as they are driven hard and getting to the end of their useful life (heard that one somewhere lese before?) and even with normal cycling, the UK is at the lowest number of frigates and destroyers they have ever had since WWII, while trying to operate two carrier strike groups, protect the approaches to their nuclear submarine deterrent and still show up in most of the planet's far away hot spot - not to mention frequent attendances at the Falklands for major surface ships for obvious reasons. They are over extended (again, heard that one before?).

The very Type 31 acquisition was developed just so they can maintain the current low number throughout the Type 26 acquisition program.

We're in a world where even cartels are using drones to drop grenades....

Somewhat disappointed that the vehicle was not actually an armored one.

But we are in a world where a high school kid could use a drone to drop explosives. Doesn't take much to get a drone, a remote release system, or make impact fuzed pipe bombs. Heck I can get everything for those at Home Depot and Walmart - would take me about an hour to make 4-5, and half of that would be driving to the stores.

Good thing we have such an advanced level of drone use in the CAF right now then, right? ;)

Sarcastic Andy Samberg GIF

Let Spender* (sic) Fernando know. He’ll start an immediate war bond drive to buy drones for our troops…

He ain't wrong, let's buy 700 senators, hundreds of more LAVs, replace all our .50 cals, crv7, LVM etc get smaller shipyards on the great lakes making support ships or corvettes. Start building infrastructure across the country for the reg force and reserves to suit our needs and growth for the next 40 years.

Personally I think trucks like the Senator, Ghurka and similar produced in Canada, in their several variants (transport, pick up, ambulance, mortar carrier, flat deck with hiab crane, fitter, command, drone carrier — whatever else that can be made) should be set into permanent improvement evolution production and not limited to a specific number. Roshel is even making prototype variants based on Unimog chassis and we should look into that*. But we need these to be made in Canada as fully as possible. We needs thousands of vehicles, with hundreds if them prepositioned throughout the country.

* if only to see just how badly our procurement system can f*ck that up.

Convert all Class A positions to Class B positions and you'll get about another 10,000 full timers on strength almost overnight ;)

And stop sending stuff abroad. The threat for us is here.

Great more Brinks trucks that have zero fucking value on a battlefield.
A commercial Ford 550 chassis isn't something to build an armored vehicle on.

1 Million Senators won't do shit if we come across the border.
Better off having Colt Canada crank out C8CQB's and IVI (or whatever it is now) cranking out 5.56mm and having enough for everyone in the country to train on and have at a local armory.

It’s all we have going right now Kevin. I did caveat to start improving them.

Senators are just a battle bus, what we need is more AT, even locally produced M72EC Mk2 would go along way (which we are switching to the EC2 already)

That would be a disaster for the LPC. Citizens with guns and training would be an unmitigated disaster worse than being the 51st state for the Liberal mind.

I would like to think the United States Military would have more discipline then to attack a long standing alley. Especially one with such close ties.
We would not need Senetors to create a level of chaos unseen in our life time. But it would give us some equipment for military to waste their ordnance on.

I would rather go to a larger caliber round get away from the US mandated NATO round myself if we were building a national firearms supply for Militia training for all.

unless your Catherine McKenna who said 'If you actually say it louder, we’ve learned in the House of Commons, if you repeat it, if you say it louder, if that is your talking point, people will totally believe it!'
 :ROFLMAO:

Math and mass aside a war of the invader is often not won by those with more might, but is lost with the diminishing the moral value of the cause.

That is pretty hard to do when he has his mind set with his journalist loud mouth beside him.
What will be interesting is when Trump gets arrested attending a foreign country for having a criminal record.

The key is to ensure Congress and Governors understands the massive ramifications of such actions, the Military Commanders understand not only the legal implications of doing so but the cost of their future of following the orders of a person who is not right.

I would like to think they follow legal orders. If there is a legal order to attack canada i would expect them to attack. When the military starts ignoring the civilian chain of command then you have problems.
