2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

I doubt it was an off the cuff response. I'll bet PP has wargamed almost any serious question that could be asked and his team has prepped him like a lawyer does with a witness.

That reads like a temper tantrum from a butt hurt lefty who is feeling the winds of change turn against him.

I feel like the National Observer is the Left leaning version of TNC or Rebel.

Yup, I have noticed every fart, burp or stutter PP makes, get highlighted by the legacy and obviously left leaning media and a poor attempt to exaggerate the ordeal.

Pierre trips on the sidewalk and headlines "Pierre stumbles terribly in public, Is he truly fit to lead this country?"

So Poilievre gets pilloried by ‘the media’ for addressing a means to control aged access to pornography and Trudeau gets accolades for looking after the children with similar efforts in the Online Harm Act?

That’s almost as ludicrous as the British media gushing about Kate using avocados to keep her skin beautiful while Megan is destroying rain forests with her desire to eat a serving of avacado toast.

Well he's made no allies in much of the established media. So I wouldn't expect much else.

The issue the media hasn't realized is their growing self imposed irrelevance. Few people are listening to them anymore.

Poilievre invites the press out to his cottage to meet his new dog. He takes a stick and throws it far out in the lake. The dog scampers out across the water's surface and retrieves the stick. Reporters are amazed and asked him to do it again. So, Poilievre fires the stick even farther this time and the dog repeats it's astounding feat.

Next day's headline:

"Poilievre's Dog Can't Swim"

I’m not sure the Canadian media landscape is as “obviously left” as most people think. Purely my take:

TV:
  • CBC is left
  • CTV is centre
  • Global is centre

Legacy print/web:
  • The Star is left wing, but owned by parent company of ones that are right wing (Postmedia - owners of National Post and the Sun series)
  • The Globe is centrist - it sometimes swings left or right but not firmly in either camp
  • The National Post is right wing
  • The National Post is right-ish centre

Thats your opinion, dude. And your one of those quick to try and put down PP. An observation.

The national observer is left
The national review is right

The issue with people calling all media left is that it generally means it’s left of them. Same with those calling them all right because it’s right of them.

The far right and far left make those comments and can’t look at it from a spectrum perspective.

None of the legacy media is far right or far left the flanks adopt that derision of all media in between.

I’d be curious how you assess those media that Dimsum posted and what leads you to thinking they are all left.

Seriously? Its opinions.

Toronto Star, for example, very left (and I think you will find majority of Canadians feel the same)

CTV and Global? Kind of center-left (my opinion) both will gladly take a shot at Trudeau as well PP.

CBC? Again my opinion but do I need say which way they lean? Although I was impressed with their take down of fake native Buffy (Bluffy) Sainte-Marie

If you are interested in who is left and right and how each spins the same incident, you can go here. Everything you want to know about bias.

Blue jacket, green jacket, left wing, right wing, who gives a sh*t.

Just keep tax dollars out of failing media.

Assessment is easy. The people writing copy use tendentious premises and descriptors (adjectives).

Coverage biases aside, in what way is having to send your government ID to random sketchy websites to gain access to legal material a good idea?

Since the Brookfield hack I'm seeing regular hacking attempt on all my various accounts I used at the time, numerous spam calls a day and all sorts of nonsense, and that was supposed to be secure data on an official government contract.

For a party that preaches personal responsibility and freedom, shouldn't the solution here for parents to actually parent?

From a technological point of view, it's also a dumb idea, as using a VPN is literal childs play.

Where does PP say you'll have to send in your government ID?

That's the proposal from the Conservative backbencher that spawned this whole thing. The other option is some sort of GoC digital ID you would have to provide, which is even more Orwellian. That would be phenomenal tracking tool that can be used by the government directly to better correlate your digital footprint as well as another data point for advertising and data aggregation people (Google etc) for legal purposes or for data theft people for social engineering, and also gives another big juicy hacking target for the database that would be behind it. Another weird dichotomy from a party that is for small government and doesn't think public servants are competent but wants to get right up in people personal shit with a solution that would require a big government footprint and let them track you directly.

It's a terrible idea from a data security point of view, probably totally unenforceable for non-Canadian hosted sites anyway, and also super easy to bypass by using a VPN to change your IP address to a different country code. Those take a few minutes to set up and are dead simple to use, and have a lot of legitimate uses.

The only people it would actually impact are non-technologically savvy people, which probably aren't too many in the under 18 crowd (who may also have access to things like fake IDs or use their parents as another easy way to bypass this). I'm sure there would be a bunch of stolen identities, black mail threats, and other opportunities for the criminally enterprising. Folks might not like porn (particularly in the so-con circles that forms a large part of his base) but it is legal, so their not liking it doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it., and is a bit of a stealth imposition of puritan beliefs on others under a false flag (which again, on the other foot is a 'left wing agenda by wokists' or whatever when the other side is doing it).

'BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN" is one of the stupidest tropes in politics, but in this case I agree with Trudeau (ugh) that it's a really dumb solution to manufactured problem. If they are actually concerned tools like installing parental controls on digital devices are probably more effective, but still not foolproof. If they wanted to do slightly more than nothing, the concerned parents could just actually try parenting. For the concerned people that aren't the actual parents, they could maybe just mind their own business.

This is a good 15 second soundbyte type idea that quickly turns into a really stupid idea if you think about it for a minute.
