No base of either party cares, which is really the problem. Just posting the latest and greatest US politics news. Though it would appear that Fox news was involved in some "fake news"...

I expect the Republicans to start their impeachment any time  ;)

Well, she's a professional.  I'd expect it.

Sure, it's more that the sitting president of the United States paying off an adult star is the problem.

Ahhh, ok. So you had no opinion about Bill clinton then?

Are you seriously equating sexual harassment/abuse of power with an intern at the White House to some rich dude allegedly having consensual sex with a porn star?

I'ts not like he got a non military Hummer in the oval office or anything.

Lewinski was 22 when that started and by all accounts the activities were consensual and without "harassment" or "abuse of power".

... This was a mutual relationship, mutual on all levels, right from the way it started and all the way through. ...
— Monica Lewinsky, statement during an interview with the Daily Mail

Daniels was 26, give or take, going with a billionaire.

Both are positions of power and both are consensual extra marital affairs. Nothing illegal just downright sleazy. So yeah. They can be equated as far as the activity goes.

Where they differ is that both Clinton and Trump lied about the activity but only Trump paid $130,000 to hush it up.

[cheers]

Ahhhhh, yup.  He's not family, so again, it's Hillary's business, not mine.

And lastly, I.Don't.Care.I'm.Not.American.  Bill and Donald are their problem, not mine.

Two real news events to follow.

#releasethememo looks like an enormous issue has been uncovered, and the longer it is held back, the worse the speculation and rumour mongering will be. (For those of you who have not been following, a 4 page classified memo has been released and seen by members of the Congress which outlines testimony from Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson showing how the FISA warrant process was subverted top allow surveillance of the Republican nominee). This abuse of power will obviously reach back and identify people by name and position, and the Democrat party is already trying to discredit it. Some coverage here: https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2018/01/19/releasethememo-real-democrats-fighting-exactly-one-reason/

Second event is the government shutdown. This could be interesting because it was fairly clear from the beginning the Democrats were not going to negotiate in good faith (since the "asks" from the President included the Wall, immigration and security reforms). What American media and the chattering classes still don't seem to get is President Trump has dealt with bad faith negotiations for decades when in the real estate business. It will be interesting to see what the President's negotiation fail and BATNA plans are as they get rolled out (no doubt to outrage and disbelief that the President is going to do something using his executive powers).

Lots of beer and popcorn being stockpiled here.

Why not? Both were extramarital affairs with legal aged consenting adults. Both were done from positions of power. The fact that one was an intern and the other is a porn star isn't relevant as the occupation of the person, or the fact that they had an extramarital affair. It's that both committed crimes/shady about it- Clinton in a sworn statement, Trump by paying her off.

Both also have a number of sexual harassment allegations surrounding them, so there's that too.

Clinton/Lewinsky was an employer-employee power dynamic, while the alleged Trump affair is a social power dynamic. It's a real stretch to consider them equivalent.
