U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Washington State, Oregon and California would make nice additions to British Columbia...
Were you high on BC bud when you posted this?

California is a DISASTER...

California & BC do share a lot of the same 'boldly retarded' views on things though...like flooding the streets with 'safe government drugs' and 'decriminalizing hard drugs' in order to fix a homelessness and drug use epidemic

On a (hopefully) equally hypothetical basis, IF the US were to actually implement Trumps threats to use "economic force" to try and force the annexation of Canada at what point do we walk out of NORAD and shut down the radar feeds?

Realistically the major direct military threats to Canada in terms of Russian/Chinese/North Korean missile and air attacks are due to the fact that we are America's ally and actively participate in the collective defence of North America through NORAD. If America were to no longer be an ally (i.e. they are actively trying to annex us) then why should we assist them in their defence?
Because getting nuked feels bad....mm'kay??

We have no guns to take up arms cuz the Libs took them all.
But if we become Americans we will have 2nd Amendment Rights and can buy all the guns we want. So thousands of pissed off Canadians wandering around the US armed to the teeth! And lets face it, Canadians know more about the United States and Americans than anyone else in the world! We know how they think, act, dress, their history, their sports, how they eat/drink and we even talk like Americans (except for Quebecers and Newfies)! The perfect assassins! :sneaky:;)

Better still, let’s detach Alaska from the U.S. and just stick it on to Canada. You gotta admit, it looks better that way.

I love the idea of living in Alaska.

Id vote against that.

The Danes have already made an offer to California.

Truth be told maybe we should make an offer to some other blue states as well.

They can have it.

You guys do realize those Blue States are blue for about 50 miles inland from the coast. The rest of Washington, Oregon, and California are more like Wyoming than New York.

Canada is wholly responsible for the current situation it finds itself in. Jordan Peterson raises some interesting considerations:

"Will Those Provinces Actually Leave?" - Jordan Peterson

Canada shouldn't fight a trade war with it's foremost customer. Canada ought pursue a strong economic union with the US while it can bargain in good standing. The current course is only setting the stage for a weaker bargaining position down the road.

A post nation state will not survive on it's own. The country will fracture and far better deals will emerge.

Our current crop of Liberal politicians have been caught with their pants down. Seemingly everything they once preached, pushed and foisted on the country has turned around on them.

They are scrambling and panicked. Canada has made this bed and we can enjoy it.

Canada did pursue a strong economic union with the US. NAFTA, CUSMA (best deal ever apparently).

The US is taking a hammer to it with a made up crisis in order to break the rules.

No deal with the US is worth the paper it is written on.

The only thing Canada is responsible for is trusting that agreements with the US would be honoured and not being prepared for the day our southern neighbours would turn on us economically. That I admit is on Canada. Hopefully going forward we find more reliable partners.

The other side argues Canada has not followed through on it's agreements, hence the punishment. And practically everyone on this forum experiences first hand that fact.

I do agree with Stephen Harper’s recent comments: “Now, because I do think that if Trump were determined, he could really do wide structural and economic damage, but I wouldn’t accept that,” said Harper. “I would accept any level of damage to preserve the independence of the country.”

I agree with the quote, but what other choice is there ? We either suffer and continue or submit and disappear.

I realize I’m stretching the definition of the word “war” but Trump has pretty much all but declared war on this country. He is more than willing to subject us to terrible suffering in order to accomplish the takeover of our country in order to salve his sick ego. I’m not so much disappointed in him as I am in the politicians who stand back as he accomplishes his evil deeds along with those Americans who elected him. A sad, sad way to treat a country that’s stood by the Americans for generations.

It’s the War of 1812, Part Deux.

I hate that talk. We use the word War like we do Nazi and its losing is meaning.

Canada is experiencing the consequences of its choices going back to the 60s. We can learn from them; take the bitter pill and get better, or we can point at the USA and pout.

It's our choice. This is one of those 'when the going gets tough moments...' So, what are we? Are we a serious nation that will make the sacrifices to become greater, or were we really just a vassal state all along; and now we will disappear into some form of another country?

maybe? Im not sure how realistic it is to not expect the tie in with the US economy. It predates Confederation. Those that were worried about it opposed the FTA. Now things are worse on that front.

The reality is the US can break us economically if they want to. It looks like they might want to

Geography dictates they will be a major trading partner for us. Just how major is up to us to determine.

We have all the natural resources and potential in the world to be a great nation. Do we want to be is the question.

its been a dream for a 100 yrs. I will be pleasantly surprised if we manage to significantly reduce our reliance on the US. I do not expect much
