A Deeply Fractured US

The usual rule applies: if it were more than a rumour, we'd know everything about it because it would be big news. Absence of evidence where Trump is concerned, is evidence of absence.

There are several pages of how it was covered in major news sites. It was all in the first two weeks of Jan this year.

Better under Bush 2.0

Did he actually have a policy or just let stuff happen?

Except he’s naive enough to believe that letting Russian roll Ukraine is a way to peace.

Both parties are equally culpable on vote harvesting. I fell hook line and sinker for the ‘Stop the Steal’ until more information came to light.

Like Fox or Fucker Carlson?

I put it to you that you are woefully underinformed and clearly don’t have a US Security Clearance to understand what Trump has actually done.

Clearly Niki Haley…

I take it you did not actually read the report.

I’m glad you are not a US voter.

Unfortunately the US establishment and institutions have been telling so many lies and doing underhanded things for years that now a huge portion of the voting American public just doesn't believe anything that is said about Trump. Nobody knows what is true and what is political bullshit anymore. And not trusting 'government' is baked into the American DNA.

The establishment made their bed and now they are going to lay in it. I'm not the problem here, nor are the vast swaths of Americans supporting Trump. The problem is the establishment, and they ought ask themselves why millions of voters are still supporting the boogey man when according to you and the establishment he is Hitler incarnate - though before entering politics he was just another wealthy American celebrity.

It is quite the pickle you'll are in.

Well he did admit to it on camera…

The best thing America can do right now is just let the electorate determine the outcome and let the chips fall where they may. If Trump is so terrible in office, he will be slowed by the courts or impeached by his own. All the scandal trying to jail him or prevent him from running are just adding fuel to a pissed off public.

Something's not clear. Did Trump personally receive the money for no obvious reason, or was this money paid to Trump's businesses for manifestly obvious functions of those businesses? If the latter, were they paid suspiciously above usual rates?

If there were a sniff of illegality, why isn't it one of the front-page court cases? (If there are court cases about it, they are pretty low profile.)

Something about back in 2008 the Chinese rented space in one of his buildings before he ran for office and renewed the lease with his company while he was in office.... Is that the one?

Per the NY Times of Jan 4th

Donald J. Trump’s businesses received at least $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments during his presidency, according to new documents released by House Democrats on Thursday that show how much he received from overseas transactions while he was in the White House, most of it from China.

On Thursday, Eric Trump said in an email that the Chinese bank mentioned in the report had signed a 20-year lease at Trump Tower in 2008, almost a decade before his father took office.

This is why nobody believes the bullshit anymore.

Any hair on fire eye popping stop the presses news on any political candidate during election season has to be viewed with caution. Any October surprise is especially suspect.

Agree. Presumably any candidate at this level has been vetted for background.

Any predictions for VP?

Tim, Vivek or Kari?

The majority of independents and "moderate" Republicans are voting Haley.
Trump won almost 56%, exit polls suggest that just under half (47% to 49%) of the voters were registered Republicans (some of whom probably did not vote for Trump), and he was not crushed just now. Obviously he was attractive to that voter mix.

No conclusions about the total mix and intentions of voters motivated enough to vote in the election but not motivated enough to vote in a primary can easily be forecasted.

Trump is going to get crushed in November.

WASHINGTON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Some 51% percent of voters in New Hampshire's Republican presidential primary contest consider themselves to be Republicans, down from 55% in the party's 2016 contest, according to an exit poll conducted on Tuesday by Edison Research.
The poll gathered responses from 2,192 voters in the Republican contest, and poll results were still being updated.
  • 43% of voters in the Republican contest - which was also open to voters who are not registered with any party - said they usually considered themselves as independents, largely unchanged from 42% in 2016.
  • 6% of voters usually think of themselves as Democrats, compared to 3% in the party's 2016 primary.
  • 34% consider themselves moderate or liberal, compared to 29% in the party's 2016 primary.
  • 48% of voters had a college degree, compared to 53% in the party's 2016 primary.
  • 54% of voters said that if former President Donald Trump were convicted of a crime, he would still be fit for the presidency. 42% said he would not be fit for the office if convicted.
  • 51% do not think Joe Biden legitimately won the 2020 presidential election.
  • 19% said they decided who to vote for in the last few days.
  • Whites who consider themselves evangelical or born-again Christians made up 20% of voters, compared to 23% in the 2016 primary.
  • 75% said the condition of the U.S. economy is not-so-good or poor, while 24% say it is excellent or good.
  • 57% said they expect the next generation of Americans to be worse off, compared 33% in the 2016 primary
  • 37% of voters said the economy mattered most when deciding how they would vote in the contest, compared to 31% who said immigration mattered most. 12% cited abortion policy and 14% said foreign policy
