You are never going to get some people to say a positive thing about PP mon ami.
I love the way he would eviscerate liberal committee members with uncomfortable questions that required uncomfortable answers to which the liberals would just stare at him in silence stuck and unable to speak.

It's not that hard to dislike someone in general and yet still appreciate their strengths.

Pretty specific allegations from Radio Canada, with Rempel Garner clearly denying any shenanigans.
"Ahead of a parliamentary committee meeting on Monday in Ottawa, Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner walks away from CBC journalist Chris Rands as he attempts to ask a question about allegations that she was pressured to withdraw her support for Patrick Brown during his 2022 Conservative Party of Canada leadership race ..."

Here's bits of her statement from the CBC piece ....

... and this is her Substack post (Jun 23, 2022) re: considering giving the UCP boss gig a go ....

Barring some significant weasel wording on Rempel Garner's part, or on the part of the unnamed sources, I have a hard time thinking she'd say nothing happened when something actually did.

The June 2024 NSICOP report's redacted take ....

So it has been five minutes since I pissed people off but here I go. I was quiet on Christmas day because my wife has threatened to beat the shit out of me if I discuss politics on Xmas, online.

Now, here we go. There is a difference between being politically minded and being partisan blind party follower.

Here we go. My mother had a friend over to visit. We will call her J. No name, no shame. J is a white immigrant women from a European nation in the 40s (she is mid 80s but is not senile or doesn't appear to be).

She was banging on and on about Trump (you know, he is worse than King Kong and Godzilla combined), and the conversation turns to Pierre Poilievre. She goes on and on about what a horrible person he is and how he is the Canadian version of Trump. I asked her if she ever listened to an interview or listen to him speak. She declares she will never give him the time of day. Really? Lets see.

I hold up an image of NDP MP Charlie Angus on my phone and without pointing to the photo or saying anything about it, I said "So you think Pierre Poilievre is not fit to lead the country?" She then points to the image of old Charlie and says what a slob and look at him, he is an angry old white man. Absolutely she will never vote for him. OK. First fail.

Not satisfied, I then pull up a video of Pierre speaking to I believe Brian Lilley at Toronto Sun. I say "Hey J, here is a possible replacement for Trudeau as head of the Liberals and future Prime Minister of Canada, his name is Jean Levesque (obviously bullshit)" I play the video skipping the first few minutes so his name is not mentioned. When he talks about standing up for Canada and TRump can smell fear in Trudeau, etc, etc. She then says "Absolutely I could vote this Jean guy, listen to him...." She prattled on a few seconds. She even declared she would switch her vote from NDP to Liberal if "Jean" took over the party. Go figure. OK, epic fail number two.

This is what is wrong with Canadians and politics.

I’m not surprised.

Since the fragmentation of the media and the onset of streaming services, nobody watches the suppertime or late news broadcasts anymore, therefore only have a scant understanding of current events. If they’re getting their “news” from their friends on social media, they are going to be getting warped sense of what’s going on in the world. Why tune into TV (or online for that matter) for the evening news or read the newspaper online when there are so many other things to watch? And why watch stodgy “mainstream” news when you can get your news from someone that tickles your ideological erogenous zones?

I don’t know how that’s fixed. The government’s various media/internet bills and other policies they have enacted will only make things worse. I’m not sure if the toothpaste can be put back in the tube. Caveat lector.

We can start with having an unbiased, non partisan media. One that leaves out opinion and only reports the facts. Telling the truth, warts and all, would likely help restore Canadians trust.

interesting that you mention Charlie Angus as i believe that he had indicated that he might not be interested in bringing down the govt no matter the position on that matter by Singh

Still think I much prefer O'Toole and probably even Brown although hes a little greasy

I get far more indepth and broad view of world events from social media than I ever got from the MSM, with a few small exceptions in regards to a handful of specific journalists.

Two theories on this

1. Singh wants him to "oppose" his direction he indicated (Singh has "vowed" to bring down Trudeau ASAP), he may use Charlie's position to see what the polls are doing for the NDP (test the waters so to speak); or
2. Charlie Angus just wants to defy the Conservatives because "conservatives are always bad and evil, they will cut your health care, your social spending, they will eat your children and take your souls blah, blah, blah".

I really hope its number 1. If you have a really good look at pretty much ALL the polls, it isn't just the Liberals that are in deep trouble. The NDP is probably going to suffer worst. Singh flip flopping on Trudeau has absolutely destroyed the NDP brand.

LPC would need 15 supporting votes, approximately, to survive a confidence motion assuming all current MPs show up. They’ll pick up a couple of the independent votes. Assuming all LPC vote confidence, only by a major fracture in the NDP, to the extent that it would indicate Singh does not control his party, could LPC survive.

The other wild card is Trudeau. If Trudeau announces he is stepping down, I see the LPC covering him (voting with him) to protect the party. If he stays, I think many a back bencher will turn against him.
