Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

I'm neutral to slightly positive on Carney. He was an excellent central banker, in both Canada and the UK; maybe on of the world's monetary policy superstars - boring as sh!t but vitally important.

He has a huge brain and really big league - way bigger than PM Trudeau or M Poilievre - experience in Wall Street and in the corridors of global power.

He is committed to climate change as an issue - maybe overcommitted, in my opinion, for Canada which is responsible for < 2% of GHG emissions.

For me it is the company he keeps and his ties to the climate party that cause me the most consternation. If there is a Court Party then he is a card carrying member.

Not trying to pick a fight here but the narrative I hear from some quarters on the right is that “experts” are something that is no longer trusted.

Are there experts currently advising him and who are they? Honest question as I haven’t dived in to it to know.

I am one of those that has a healthy disdain for experts. I appreciate experts as sources of information. I don't trust experts to make my decisions for me. The experts too often see the world through their straw. They lack peripheral vision.

The rest of us live in a world where we constantly have to stay alive to the unexpected.

The consequences of my decisions are my own. One of the consequences I will have to suffer is living with the person I vote for, assuming that he makes it to power, and trust that he will both adhere to his published course of action and that he can make his course of action succeed.

Who should he have trusted then?
In that case, that was a F up from several angles. First the government disease experts wanted Trudeau to lock down borders from China but he wouldn't do that because "it was racist"

I need to be up front here; I am NOT anti-Poilievre; I'm just not a fan, either.

Is he a better choice for PM than any of Trudeau, Singh or Blanchet? Darned right he is! Is he a better choice for PM than Freeland or LeBlanc or, likely even Carney? Yep.

Is he my choice for PM? 🤷‍♂️

He didn't throw his line into the water to take the second place trophy, for sure.

Meanwhile, a bit about "the letter" ...
... with a bit of the (alleged) math

Also archived here and here in case original link doesn't work.
Nine years the Liberals have been in power and this is the first caucus meeting where the caucus spoke their minds?

The Liberal Party deserves to lose- badly.

No idea. But not just health officials alone. They haven't enough expertise to weigh all the factors.
In the beginning of Covid, the closest alligator was that there was a novel pandemic causing folks to be hospitalized in ventilators.

The biggest threat then was people’s lives and health.

Even the Team Red host (veteran of Team Paul Martin and the associated dumping the leader machinations of the time) said PMJT's poke was a good one - although the did repeat a call at the end of the show to PMJT to call it quits if there’s this much opposition in caucus. Disagree with Red pundits here and agree with Tory pundit here & Matt Gurney (on The Line podcast) on the "punch": good tactical blow for one news cycle, but won't move the Red Appeal needle - and threatens to draw the eye even more to its own weaknesses in this area.

Also of note from The Curse of Politics (love the podcast as well): even the Tory pundit on the panel says PP should brief up, especially as the (if polls are to be believed) presumably next PM.

And what do you see as India's take, or are they happy to just continue to visibly stir up crap?
I’m pretty sure there’s enough side channel information flow between CSIS and the Conservative Party that PP already knows as much if not more than the PM. To wit: he’s stalling because the inevitable public disclosure will be just as painful for team blue as it is for team red and team orange. Anybody who thinks the Conservative Party isn’t riddled with untrustworthy, dual loyalty chumps (just like the Libs and NDP) just hasn’t been paying attention.

I haven't heard any partisan cries over this.

Just release the names so Canadians can see.

For sure.

One has to be a former Governor General. I’d like to see the list of federal politicians and public office holders in any agency, board or commission including CRTC, CHRC, any defence advisory board, RCMP, DND. All of it. Now there’s a sunshine list for us all!!

Out every single one of them but first begin with federal and provincial elected members and people appointed to high office like GG, LG’s, Judges and the like. Past and Present.

It’s time to clean house.

Agreed on all accounts. I just want the public to know how dirty our house was before it got cleaned.

I don't know if I'd go as far as the yellow bit, but based on at least some of the team he has working for him, PP has to "know" at some level, even if it's from his own suspicions/instincts. Still, it's a good talking point for Red & Orange that "he doesn't want to know" (whether it's true or not).

Maybe - and true about all colour jerseys having something to be embarrassed about ....

One critic I heard on a podcast somewhere actually said PP may have some worries about getting a "new clearance" and what they'd find, but if he managed to be a cabinet minister in a former life, I'd be HUGELY surprised if he did anything that would keep him from being at least that cleared again since then.
