The War in Ukraine

The only thing I can think of is that he's trying to terrify/force the Europeans into taking the lead in an opposition to Russia.

That's all I got though...

  • European peacekeepers: The United States “would not object to it at all” to European peacekeeping troops being stationed in Ukraine, Trump said. “If they want to do that, that’s great. I’m all for it,” Trump said. However, he suggested the US would not participate “because we’re very far away.”

Russia stated they will not allow any country that is in NATO to be part of a Peacekeeping Force. Lol, How many does that leave?

imo we are seeing the US turn its backs on allies, and butter up to moscows point of view. The damage done to America's influence might take decades to recover. In the mean time, a Trump admin is now turning its back on ukraine. Tom Clancy eat your heart out, there's a Cardinal in the White house, not the Kremlin.

Why is anyone surprised at Trump completely turning his back on and betraying Ukraine? What other reasonable expectation did anyone who pays attention have? Of course Trump was going to sell them out and suck up to Putin. People have been shouting that since the presidential race started.

Well, actually...

FDR did require the UK to turn over a few of their overseas possessions in exchange for a few clapped out destroyers, thus taking advantage of the dire straits the Germans had put the UK into with their U-Boat fleet ...

In fact the whole of the Empire was in play. Churchill was admant that it must survive. Roosevelt was equally adamant that it could not survive.

Roosevelt won.
Roosevelt won, or rather Marshall did.
1947 India
1956 Suez
1960 MacMillan's Winds of Change Speech
1968 Healey's Retreat from East of Suez

Well....

Britain also ran out of money to sustain the Empire as they drained the treasury fighting WW2, and as you note the USA was a big anti-imperialist of course, which contributed to decades of 'Retreat from Empire'.

A cautionary tale if nothing else.
