The War in Ukraine

I still believe the large NATO exercise just before Russia launched their massive assault was to draw NATO troops in where Putin would have used non conventional weapons to attempt to disable/ take out a large portion of equipment on European land.
That's my feeling on the matter.
What “large NATO Exercise” in 2022 are you referring to?

Defender-Europe 2021

You're suggesting that Putin was behind planning a NATO exercise so that Russia could launch a preemptive NBC strike against the concentrated NATO forces prior to the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine so that NATO wouldn't have sufficient forces remaining in Europe to oppose his invasion?

What would constitute an act of war? So far we have Russia regularly flying their drones across the airspace of NATO partners, we have ships operating under Russian and Chinese control destroying pipelines and communication cables, we have constant jamming and even worse, spoofing of vital civilian nav. facilities. Is there a line and if so, who draws it?

I hope there's equivalent "nope totally not us" grey damage being inflicted on Russia.

Time for a solid, multiplatform propaganda and agitation campaign aimed at Kaliningrad, with a clear "if you'd like to stop being Russian and rejoin Poland or Lithuania, then do X," path, too.

Not directly.
But his words in 2017 wanting to reunite the Former Soviet Union and his aggressive stance resulted in NATO members asking for more support and training.
Putin knew that could and would result in larger Concentrations of NATO Troops in a show of force. Which played into his statement that NATO was being aggressive in the area. More importantly large amounts of Equipment all in close proximity to each other would be easy to attack in a first strike capacity.

I think Putin was hoping NATO forces would stay and reenforce in Ukraine the Fall of 2021 during their training process. As Russian Military was building up their equipment.

It possibly explains the complex reason on why he invaded Ukraine in the First place.
FSB agents in various parts of Ukraine and other Baltic states pass information on that things are bad in the country but they do not need intervention yet. (the agents are playing three sides. Russia is paying them, they have decent local jobs, and they are bribing people). They are living the high life.
  • New FSB boss comes in reads reports and recommends that Ukraine needs to be liberated. Not realizing the actual reports were being falsified just enough to keep the money flowing and the stations open.
  • Putin moves in to save the day and push the aggressive western influence out of Ukraine and bring their riches back under his control.
Problem is Russia provides little to any benefit for the Former Soviets states to reintegrate back into the USSR. All Russia did is abuse and take advantage of them. Gave them no real path forward then slave labor, false protection and stolen toilets.
But Russia today is not much different then Soviet Union times. They do not have the skills to mass produce military equipment, which Russia needs to become the super power they once were. They relied on all the former states to manufacture it all with final assembly being done under direct Russian supervision or on their land.

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that the politicians might be aware, but their populations don't care.

And there's the rub...
Don't know what's rattling around in the UK, Australia, or NZ, but there doesn't seem to have been a loud, concerted THE RUSSIANS ARE AT IT AGAIN drumbeat coming out of Washington or Ottawa, from any point on the political spectrum.

Follow the money. The Russians and Chinese spend a Metric Ass ton of money to ensure that people play ostrich.
- Politicians and Staffers as well as Media.
Some unknowingly duped, others willing participating for money.

Rachel Reeves is the British Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) - Member of the Labour Party

Currently Britain is going through a significant financial crisis similar to the one that brought down Liz Truss. The difference is that the Bank of England is propping up Starmer-Reeves after tearing down Truss-Kwarteng.

So what does Reeves do? Heads for Beijing.

...

And what is Starmer doing?

Making Diego Garcia less secure.

He tried to slip the deal through under Biden but, as is his wont, screwed the pooch and now Trump gets a say.

Diego Garcia is on the Chagos Islands which are owned by Britain but which Starmer is currently trying to sell to Mauritius, a Chinese client, with the expectation that the US will retain landing rights on Diego.

There isn't much in the way of land in the Indian Ocean between Africa and Australia.

PS Rachel Reeves was endorsed by Mark Carney and Keith Starmer is advised by Mark Carney

Donald Trump has ordered Vladimir Putin to stop his “ridiculous war” with Ukraine or face fresh tariffs and sanctions from the US.

“If we don’t make a ‘deal,’ and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries,” the president said on his Truth Social network.

Mr Trump went on to warn Putin about the damage that would be inflicted on Russia’s “failing” economy if the Kremlin continued to pursue its grinding war. “Settle now, and STOP this ridiculous War! IT’S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE,” he said.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, today said any peacekeeping force deployed in Ukraine after the war ends will need to include US troops as a deterrent.

Prior to his inauguration on Monday, Mr Trump vowed to end the Ukraine war before even taking office, raising expectations he would leverage aid to force Kyiv to make concessions to Moscow.

However, the president now appears to be focused on applying pressure on Putin.

On Monday, Mr Trump declared that Putin is “destroying Russia” in some of his most scathing criticism to date.
