LPC leadership race - 2025

The only one responsible for Trumps continued bullshit is Trump.

That said I suspect if Canadians would have ignored Trump's 51st state commentary, and not responded so emotionally, Trump wouldn't have gotten the dopamine reaction trolls get by upsetting people and moved on.

Our media is inundated with Trump articles; it's like every time he takes a shit a Canadian journalist is right there writing a story about it.
i dont think we are paying enough attention to him

Qualified from my own experiences, if there are similarly qualified individuals, I have seen women predominantly choose the women over the man. In this specific case, I would argue/posit that this is a Carney vs Freeland scenario. Are you saying it would be unsophisticated for women to bias a decision towards another women? Do you think this is the case for politics? Business? Social
Interaction?

🤷🏻‍♂️ I wouldn’t. While there could be intragender competition amongst women, in no way would I assume/bet/anticipate a bias toward favouring automatically a man over a woman.

a hard thing to measure for sure, from previous post

female spread Carney over Freeland
18-34= 19
35-54= 23
55+= 27

male spread Carney over Freeland

18-34= 44
35-54= 47
55+= 27

suggests that Freeland is more popular amongst female voters than Carnery relative to male voters

If it superficial things like shoes and hair yes.

My experience on that is the opposite, women can be unrelenting in their critique of each other for fashion and things categorically less substantive, but where issues of capability/worth/value amongst genders is concerned, again, I have not experienced an overwhelming trend of seeing women merit men disproportionately over women.

Every person experiences, even those experiencing indirectly the gender mutual support/competition aspects, are unique, so I wouldn’t assume you or any other man has experiences and an impression of the issue as do I. Nothing wrong with that. And nor should I feel bound to de-experience my experiences and perspectives, based on someone else’s experiences.

One has to look at comments from people like Clinton criticizing women who voted for trump. They had their reasons but she turned off a lot of women because she assumed women should vote on gender lines rather than policy preferences.
I would attribute that to her, and not to a baseline women acting counter towards other women and biased towards a man.

I will admit that I do like seeing CPC riding higher than the others HOWEVER I have my doubts about this poll. I can not see the PPC actually reaching 3%.

I am alarmed at seeing the NDP go further down. Its not about rejoicing in seeing them fail, I am disturbed. Jagmeet appears to have neutered the NDP. He could have created a legit third option for Canadians and screwed that up. I still insist my opinion was insightful that Jagmeet should have brought down the LPC in the fall. They would have eaten up the LPC position and been 2nd or 3rd place party in the HoC.

I don't accept the BS arguments that he fought for X benefits and avoiding a CPC super-majority (gasp the horror!). They still could have formed opposition and set themselves up in the next decade for possibly forming the government.

Those were not the arguments though.

Congratulations Jagmeet Singh. By delaying the election until after Trudeau steps down, you've turned what could have been a close race for official opposition status into the potential demise of your party. The NDP is hemorrhaging all of their support to the Liberals and the CPC has only lost basically the margin of error.

As soon as the Liberal leadership race is over, the two-faced approach to Canada is going to smack Carney in the face if he's the choice. Especially since he's already starting to be called out in the media: Carney's campaign admits to muddled messaging on pipelines, spending cuts

I don’t believe anyone here has talked about the NDP having any motive of preventing a CPC ‘super majority’, since that’s an absolutely meaningless concept in our parliament. If you have the majority, you get to pass the laws through the house. Having more than a majority just means some of your people can take the night off if there’s a potentially tight vote coming up.

It’s only slightly more meaningless than being the official opposition to a majority government. Remember they did that once and achieved nothing, because that’s what oppositions to majorities do.

The thought that NDP would ever form government in any circumstances recognizable from where we stand now (or have stood in living memory) is an absolute pipe dream.

I am surprised at how many NDP voters have shifted to support the LPC, at least in the polls. It’s more pragmatic than I would have expected.

Yes, when the PPC used his own words to draft the question. But he is actually almost a year past his best before date. As soon as the Toronto Star began questioning Boy Wonder he should have acted.

Still odd seeing Dippers flock to a Goldman Sacks banker who worked for Stephen Harper and Boris Johnson…

A successful 160 year old investment company is working on inertia to make payroll. Mark Carney made sure it continued on its role to make the rich richer. He didn’t really have to worry about making payroll.
I doubt he went from business school to management right away
