LPC leadership race - 2025

indeed crazy to think

soft support for PP amongst voters that will switch
arrival of Trump on the scene
removal of Trudeau
apparent choice of Carney
evaporation of NDP support

if election were held today it looks like we went from a huge majority win for the CPC to at best hoping for a plurality of seats which is not enough

again crazy

One event can shift things. This is several events.

Yep. A confluence of separate events has changed everything. At this point, Carney is still perceived by many as “the adult” and the Tories are perceived by many as Trump-friendly which is now toxic is Canada. Carney’s not a good retail politician and the Tories have some smart people, so let’s see if they can pivot.

Hence why "Elected leader, drop the writ immediately" may well be the selected CoA.

Has the added benefit of pushing CPC funding advantage to the side, as election period expenses B parties are constrained, unlike spending outside the writ period.

maybe but what went up could come down. Still assuming Carney wins the LPC leadership if i was him i would call a quick election
I dunno brother. Canadians seem ready to start burning Telsas in the streets. Inflamatory articles like the Globe and Mail saying it's our "patriotic duty" to boo the US national anthem.

Anyone preaching anything less than "another" march on the white house aren't going to win this crowd over.

no reason the CPC cant own that though. It was easy to see it coming and some of us here commented on how the Trump win was a good thing for the Liberals

Its funny how patriotic the post nation state crowd suddenly got eh ?

Like I have said before. Nothing ignites national passion in leftie Canadians like a new reason to hate the USA.

I hope USA wins on Thursday. I despise the game of hockey, its a cancer on our country, and I love watching Canadian heads explode when Canada loses some meaningless hockey game.

I think if you really dug down into it, the crowd of people actually epousing Canada as a "post nation state" is EXTREMELY small and that it's primarily just an overinflated right wing talking point.

This sounds eerily like a Trumper trying to deflect when Trump waffles on something he's said...

Am I not supposed to take JT at his word ? How about he millions who voted for him, I have to assume they believed in what he espoused; like Canada being the first post national state. Hell I was dupped by him in 2015.

You asserted that a large number of the people who are currently acting very patriotic are also people who until recently believed and supported the idea that Canada was (or should become) and a post nation state and therefore implied that they are being hypocritical.

I take umbrage with that assertion. The idea that Canada is or should become a post Nation state has never been a core part of Trudeau's platform. I can't even find any reference to him even saying it since like 2015. You can't paint every liberal voter as a sharing that view just because they voted for Trudeau.

Put more simply, the vast majority of Canadians, including liberal voters, have no sweet clue what post-nationalism even fucking is, let alone support it.

I mean you seem very defensive about something JT espoused and has continued to be talked about right up until now.

Heres a google search:

If people are going to vote for a party and leader one can only assume they support the ideologies and positions of the aforementioned. Why else would they vote for them ? And the idea of a post national state, is no minor belief.

I doubt you’re going to be able to find much evidence that that comment by Trudeau was ever something many average Canadians, Liberals or otherwise, adopted as a viewpoint that reflects their beliefs. It’s a pretty questionable suggestion to hang your hat on. Canadians aren’t generally loud in our patriotism, but it’s there. We haven’t in living memory had a threat to our sovereignty like we’re seeing now, coupled with promised tangible attacks on our industries and businesses. That’s more than enough to take that quiet attachment to Canadianness and make it show a bit louder.
