The first Charlottesville city council meeting since the disastrous August 12 clash devolved into total chaos as a mob of aggressive leftists screamed at local officials, eventually prompting law enforcement to take action.

The deputy mayor has some pretty sweet tweets.

Alt-Right ‘America First’ Rallies Move Online After Boston ‘Free Speech’ Protest Is Overrun

Sixty-seven planned rallies in 36 states that were meant to attract members of the so-called alt-right and other racist groups are moving online after a “free speech” rally on Saturday in Boston attended by white supremacists was drowned out by demonstrators.

Next they'll want to change the name of the country to Blandada or something suitably neutral in case someone is offended.    :not-again:

This isn't related to Charlottesville though. The difference is this- John A McDonald, Cornwallis and other such are different than the Confederate statues. While Cornwallis and Macdonald both have more complicated than simple history implies the Confederate statues were put up to celebrate a fake narrative of the greatness if the south prior to the civil war. The context is what matters. Not every statue or monument is the same.

In keeping with the preferred alt-right explanation of why the Charlottesville event went south, namely the machinations of a vast left-wing conspiracy to foment racial violence and spark a civil war, alternative media outlets began accusing Kessler of being a “deep state” operative in the pay of billionaire leftist George Soros.

None of this reads to us like the history of a man who underwent a sudden, “feigned” conversion to an alt-right, “pro-white” political stance in the wake of the election of Trump (for whom Kessler voted, he told us, and whose presidency he still supports). The evidence shows, rather, that Kessler was already evincing well-developed “white identity” views by February 2016, and has consistently reviled the left and expressed solidarity with the alt-right ever since.

There is some murkiness.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (not a right-leaning organization) says, at https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/individual/jason-kessler:

"Kessler himself has placed his “red-pilling” around December of 2013 when a PR executive was publicly excoriated for a tasteless Twitter joke about AIDS in Africa.

Regarding the incident, Kessler stated “… so it was just a little race joke, nothing that big of a deal, she didn’t have that many followers, she probably didn’t think anybody was gonna see it,”

Regardless of Kessler’s past politics, the rightward shift in his views was first put on display in November, 2016 when his tirade against Wes Bellamy began."

mariomike said:
Did Kessler write articles for CNN that were sympathetic to the Occupy movement?

False. Kessler says he never worked for CNN, and we spoke to a source at CNN who confirmed it. A writer named Jason Kessler was once employed by CNN, and he did cover Occupy Wall Street protests among many other topics, but according to CNN it was not the same Jason Kessler who went on to lead Unite the Right.

I was able to find a surprising number of Jason Kesslers in various occupations, so, yes, the CNN claim is most likely false.

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch http://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/organizer-of-charlottesville-s-unite-the-right-rally-described-as/article_c0acb07f-873d-5a9b-87dc-4f912824ad12.html:

Organizer of Charlottesville's Unite the Right rally described as onetime wannabe liberal activist

In an interview last month, one of Kessler’s childhood friends, David Caron, said Kessler previously had identified as a Democrat, but became disillusioned when he started thinking that there was no place for him in a party that has focused its efforts on embracing diversity and minority issues. He said the two of them had started supporting Trump last summer and attended one of his rallies in Richmond.

He was a Democrat until last year. The main thing is, he said he felt like the party didn’t want him,” Caron said.

There's more at both links. I discarded a lot of others because they made claims but lacked references.

So he did convert from left extremism to white supremacy, whether genuinely or not, but there is no definite proof of the date.

I looked for his Linked In profile. There is a Jason Kessler one that has been pulled. One presumes that it was his, but it could have been one of his namesakes who was getting hate-mail via that site.

Media attempts to twist President Trump's words in this matter (and others) do not appear to be having any real effect. Their blatherings and manufactured outrage have not diminished his standing in the only place where it actually counts - among his supporters - and may even be improving Republican chances.

The CNN video itself: "Trump voters hit out at media, say Charlottesville was a setup" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUTXNigXBYA

I'm not a Next News fan - too much fluff and hype around the key content - but this was the shortest clip that I could find that concentrates on the fundraising difference between the two parties: "Watch MSNBC Host Suffer Live Meltdown after Realizing the Horrifying Truth He Never Wanted to Know" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_8-2qx6Lwg

President Trump is still pulling large and enthusiastic crowds to rallies.

"See the Sparks That Set Off Violence in Charlottesville | National Geographic" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDIfPhx-Fm0 is an excellent video, with one major exception.

It gave a good overall view of the event and its development over time. Coverage of the white supremacists was well-done, I thought. I cannot understand why any thinking person could or would associate with them. Coverage of the protesters was also good.  The exception? There is absolutely no coverage of Antifa's violent role. The worst of one side was compared to the best of the other.

The police were also shown to be, in my opinion, taking reasonable measures during the times that they were shown. Claims have been made that they failed to act, or acted poorly, at other times. Most of those claims appear to have come from the right side. This one is from a left-leaning source: "Why Did Police Stand Down In Charlottesville?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5gcbT-lxWg, and is backed up by "Reporter contradicts police chief on stand down order in Charlottesville" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJkv_NQmGbM

"Man who recorded Charlottesville attack speaks out" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nfk2e15Bhfg is also good. I watched a few of the "debunking/false flag" videos mentioned. Incredibly sketchy, those, at best. One focussed on the white T-shirt worn by the driver in a video of him leaving and compared it to a black-and-white collared shirt worn in his mugshot - which was actually a traditional striped prisoner uniform. It's pretty hard to fake something covered from multiple cameras by many people.

You can use the settings cog at the bottom of the video to run it in slow motion. That's pretty brutal but you have to expect things like that when you play in the street. Or you can run it in double speed and somehow that is funny.

If alt-right rallies should ever make a resurgence, this may be some good advice,

Anti-Fascist Protesters Fall Into Neo-Nazis’ Trap by Confronting Them
http://www.newsweek.com/anti-fascist-protesters-neo-nazi-trap-confrontation-653475

"What to do?

One solution: Hold a counterevent that doesn’t involve physical proximity to the right extremists. The Southern Poverty Law Center has published a helpful guide. Among its recommendations: If the alt-right rallies, “organize a joyful protest” well away from them. Ask people they have targeted to speak. But “as hard as it may be to resist yelling at alt-right speakers, do not confront them.”

This does not mean ignoring Nazis. It means standing up to them in a way that denies them a chance for bloodshed."

Good luck with keeping the anarchist/antifa rabble in black on the opposite side away from any sort of right of left meets.  Might as well ask the sun to come up in the West and set in the East for a change.  That would be more manageable.

Patriot Prayer rally organizer says he's not religious or white supremacist: 'I'm Japanese'

Posted: Aug 23 2017 05:40PM PDT
Updated: Aug 23 2017 10:16PM PDT

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Most people have not heard of the group Patriot Prayer until recently. The group claims to be for those who believe in free speech, love, freedom and truth. But from San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and other local politicians, there has been strong condemnation for the group's planned rally for Crissy Field this Saturday, August 26 in San Francisco.

KTVU spoke with the Patriot Prayer rally's organizer Joey Gibson on Wednesday ahead of the event. Gibson says he's being unfairly portrayed by politicians as a white supremacist and that that's also not the demographic his group is trying to cater to.

Gibson says he's absolutely not a white supremacist. "I'm Japanese. We have three black speakers, a couple Hispanic, an atheist, a transsexual. We're extremely diverse. It's really irresponsible for the leaders to call me a white supremacist. It's completely unfounded."

He referred to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi labeling him as such for publicity. Gibson added that Identity Evropa, a group identified by Southern Poverty Law Center as white nationalist has been kicked out of their events in the past. The group is just one of the 917 hate groups being tracked by SPLC. Patriot Prayer is not.

Gibson, who said he is not religious (although towards the end of his interview he says he's motivated by god and Jesus) and that he doesn't plan on forcing religion on anyone, says that what he preaches has nothing to do with skin color and is about what's "on the inside".

"Obviously we have extremists who try to show up," Gibson said when he denied Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazi's, white nationalists and white supremacists would be welcome at the rally.

"There's a lot of liberals who peacefully protest all the time and it's awesome, and then you have these anarchists or Antifa who show up and hijack their message and commit violence and burn things down. Those anarchists don't represent the liberals that are peacefully marching down the street.

Gibson added that there are too many people that think people with different ideological backgrounds are their enemy.  "The biggest problem we have right now is a lack of respect."

He said he wouldn't be preaching a conservative message and that in fact, many conservatives don't even like his message. For the record, Gibson told us he's pro-gay rights, against the Patriot Act and against the War on Drugs. "I don't like endless wars."

"You can't put me in a box. You can't say I'm a conservative. You can't say I'm a progressive."

Critics say Gibson presents himself one way and pulls the bait and switch at his rallies and what he promotes is much different. To that he responded, "show me the evidence."

Mayor Ed Lee has repeatedly encouraged the public to avoid the rally and says the group uses the guise of patriotism and religion in their name, but actually promotes violence, hatred and want to incite violence.

Lee stated this as fact and said he's been monitoring how Patriot Prayer acts in other cities.

Gibson said Lee and other politicians were not specific enough in their condemnation and could not cite examples of what it is they're talking about. He asked for Pelosi and Lee to speak out against Antifa.

Alt-Left Leader Vows to “Crush Skulls” With Baseball Bat During ‘Patriot Prayer’ Rally

Peace through violence?

Paul Joseph Watson

Prison Planet.com

August 24, 2017

A self-proclaimed Alt-Left “leader” has vowed to use a baseball bat embedded with nails to “crush skulls” during a “Patriot Prayer” peace rally set to take place in San Francisco this weekend.

The Twitter user, who goes by the handle @ibPrinceJordan, tweeted, “The Patriot Prayer rally is a nazi white supremacist event. I’ll be their to crush some nazi skulls.”

He repeated the threat in a series of other tweets that have now been deleted.

“Can’t wait! Going to bring this nailed bat for some nazi pounding,” read one.

The user is located in San Francisco, which is where the event will take place at Crissy Field on Saturday, suggesting he does indeed plan to attend the march.

His Twitter bio reads, “Alt-Left resistance leader. iraq war survivor. cute communist & catholic.”

Despite numerous other prominent Twitter users drawing attention to the violent threat, the account has not been suspended.

What makes the threat even more absurd is that organizers of the Patriot Prayer rally have specifically said its aim is to “promote peace, love and unity,” and that racists are not welcome.

The leader of the “Patriot Prayer” rally, Joey Gibson, has vehemently denounced neo-nazis, yelling “F*** white supremacists!” at a recent rally.

Even the SPLC, which routinely tars conservatives with a broad brush, does not consider Patriot Prayer to be a hate group, reports Fox News.

To the alt-left, that doesn’t matter. Anyone to the right of Michael Moore is fair game for violent assault.

Remember, in the aftermath of Charlottesville, the mainstream media relentlessly attacked Trump for saying both sides were responsible for violence, tacitly endorsing the violent alt-left.

CNN even changed a headline at the request of Antifa to disguise the fact that the group routinely engages in violence. (see http://freebeacon.com/culture/cnn-changes-headline-after-claiming-antifa-uses-violence/ for that story)

Given that the mainstream media has emboldened unhinged thugs by exalting them as “anti-fascists,” any violence that occurs at the “Patriot Prayer” rally will be their responsibility.

From the president of Congregation Beth Israel in Charlottesville, VA.

"Forty congregants were inside. Here’s what I witnessed during that time.

For half an hour, three men dressed in fatigues and armed with semi-automatic rifles stood across the street from the temple.

Several times, parades of Nazis passed our building, shouting, “There's the synagogue!” followed by chants of “Seig Heil” and other anti-Semitic language. Some carried flags with swastikas and other Nazi symbols.

Soon, we learned that Nazi websites had posted a call to burn our synagogue."

People must decide if they wish to ignore hate and refuse to be provoked, or stand up to it - at all costs.

If the word of the armed guys can be believed, and they apparently caused little or no other violence that day, they might have been there to protect the Temple.  They claimed neutrality.

By Ariel Zilber For Dailymail.com

Newly released video footage from the Charlottesville demonstrations and counter-protests involving white supremacists and anti-fascist activists shows a white nationalist firing his gun in the direction of a black man while police stood by, it was learned on Saturday.

The man who was filmed firing his weapon has been arrested and charged with a crime, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which filmed the original incident and posted it on its Twitter feed.

Nonetheless, questions abound as to why the man was not arrested immediately after he discharged his weapon within earshot of about a dozen Virginia State Police troopers, who are seen standing idly by in the video.

‘We all heard it and ran - I know damn well they heard it,’ Rosia Parker, a community activist in Charlottesville, told The New York Times. ‘They never moved.’

The Times cited ‘an official familiar with the investigation’ as saying that a man was in custody.

The shooter fired a single round toward the ground in the vicinity of the black man who was holding an improvised torch.
In response to the criticism over police inaction, Charlottesville authorities insist that officers were not given a ‘stand down’ order.

It is believed that police in Charlottesville were hesitant to use force during the August 12 rally because a month earlier law enforcement came under heavy criticism for spraying tear gas and making numerous arrests at a Ku Klux Klan rally in the same town.

In total, law enforcement, which included 125 local police officers, hundreds of National Guard soldiers, state police, and cops from neighboring municipalities made a total of just eight arrests on August 12.

That was the day of the ‘Unite the Right’ rally, which brought out counter-demonstrators, one of whom, Heather Heyer, was killed when a suspected neo-Nazi, James Fields, drove his car into a crowd.

Fields has been charged with murder.

Other counter-demonstrators complained to police that they were assaulted, yet no arrests were made.

Kendall, a 25-year-old woman, told the Times that she was chanting in the direction of neo-Nazis when one of them punched her in the face, giving her a bloody nose.

‘I moved quickly to the police and said: “A man attacked me! Please help me! I need your help. He’s right there!”’ she said.
‘They didn’t move a muscle. Only a few of them had the courage to make eye contact with me.’

A photographer at the scene also described a similar experience.

Eze Amos, a resident of Charlottesville who is originally from Nigeria, said he was snapping a picture of a white nationalist protester wearing an Adolf Hitler shirt.

As he was taking the picture, the nationalist punched his camera, which then ricocheted into his face.
‘This happened right in front of the cops,’ Amos told the Times.

‘I said, “Hey, this man just assaulted me!” The officer said, “Well I didn’t see it.” I told him, “Everybody just saw it!”’
The police officer took down Amos’s name.

‘I am a black man photographing this. I kept telling myself, ‘If it gets out of hand, the cops will jump in and save me,’” he said.
‘I saw a white woman get hit, and they did not do anything. That’s when I actually got really scared of the whole thing.’

Amos said that it was clear from observing the officers that day that they were given specific instructions not to intervene.
‘Somebody is not telling us what happened,’ Amos said.

‘Those cops did not just decide to fold their arms and watch this happen.’
It wasn’t just anti-fascists who criticized law enforcement.

White nationalist planners of the rally said that police reneged on understandings that had been reached weeks prior to the event, such as arrangement for ensuring safe entrance and exit to the park where the statue of Robert E. Lee stands.

‘They didn’t follow through on any part of their plan,’ an alt-right figure who goes by the name Eli Mosley told the Times.
‘They threw the whole thing away without telling us.’

‘Looking back, we think it was nefarious,’ he said.

‘The local government is very left wing, and they didn’t want anyone protesting the statue coming down.
‘I believe this was somewhat of a trap in some ways,’ he said.

‘We went there peacefully and were attacked, because we were forced to get past that gauntlet of counter-protesters.’
The city of Charlottesville is denying the accusations that it bore responsibility for the violence that ensued.

It has so far resisted calls to publicize their action plans from that day, saying that it is possible they will use the same plans in the future.

The Times also reported Saturday that investigators are nearing an arrest in the assault of DeAndre Harris, a 20-year-old African-American who was viciously beaten with a metal pipe and slabs of wood in a parking garage not far from police headquarters.
