Drunken Aussie Soldiers introduce new scandal

bloody media. you'd think they'd get tired of these totally overblown, BS stories. And you'd hope more of the public would realise a cop car chasing hack when they read his work.

Are we getting rid of our mine warfare capability?

Because i doubt a >55m, 375 ton vessel could fit in a well dock. Let alone leave room for anything else. It would be a waste of a fat amphib.

Are we getting rid of our mine warfare capability?

And if you need to clear mines in a port outside of Canada? With the probably requirment of amrs and/or tactical data links? When you get amphibs, you'll want mine warfare capbility capable of going with them to ensure the fat ships are safe. It is NOT a Coast Guard role.

Navy wants reality show to push recruitment drive

Well it wasn't without fault, but i liked it. Some of my oppos disagree though. each to his own i suppose. On a patrol boat things are pretty relaxed between ranks, relaxed in general actually, so thast wasnt unrealistic. When the XO threw up on the boarding they got the smell of Foreign...

    Australian amphibious ops video

I just got off her two weeks ago, during my short stint onboard we held an amphib ex, so in response to your comments. Amphib ops are always slow. Maybe a whole day to get all kit off, depending on the unloading methods used and other vessels/aircraft involved. The troops accomodation is...

    The Army and Rugby

Maybe for a football code that is true. But for alot of sports padding is necessary. Like cricket, and we love that. And lacrosse, as much as I love the game I would not play unless i had a little padding and a helmet to protect me from the titanium poles that ugly defeners like to whack me with.

Navy wants reality show to push recruitment drive

I think the type of "reality" show they are referring to here is a documentary series. NOT a big brother style "vote this dibby off the ship" garbage. What do you think the RAN is? I'd like to see it. Even if just so my mates back home will ask fewer ridiculous questions. which i think is a...

    ANZAC Day

Spent mine in Jervis Bay. Dawn service at HMAS Creswell. Then a march through Husskison with ship's company, my fellow RANC trainees, and all the local vets. That was followed by a community service attended by pretty much the entire town. And finally drinks at the RSL and the pub all afternoon...

Navy doing trials on new clothing???

The RAN changing from coveralls back to two piece in the next few years = tragedy. I love the ralls, to Canada I say get them and cherish them. They are gods gift to the Puss.

    RNZN Protector Project" Vessels

No arguing with that. It's just common sense. All of those types of vessels should be made mil spec. To do otherwise would be foolish and dangerous. But do you really think the MCDV's would be up to performing in such an area of operations anyway? Like I said, for the same price when it comes...

    RNZN Protector Project" Vessels

Almost certainly not. They have been deployed to places like the Solomon Islands. But that is an area where the enemy's most powerful weapons are home made rifles, so I doubt DC under hostile fire was a consideration.

    RNZN Protector Project" Vessels

The RAN doesn't have a budget like the US navy, yet it has the Battle and Patrol philosphy/structure. Surely when time comes to replace the MCDV's Canada could get 10 Patrol Boats and maybe 4 dedicated mine clearers. They could all still perform the reserve/training roles, but with added and...
