U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

His Majesty is King of Canada and the Head of State; he acts on the advice of the Privy Council and the Head of Government (the PM).

If you have not heard anything from Buckingham Palace on where the King stands on this, there is a reason for it.

That said, he has been vocal in other ways, when he can, but far more subtlety. I give you his message to Canadians on the 60th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag:

This is a game of chess for those who are not politically aligned (by design).

Some glad thats our head of state.

I am. The Monarchy is an important institution and provides us a cultural locus to differ from the Americans. If His Majesty hasn't commented, it's because the Prime Minister hasn't asked him to, which is a failing of the PM imo. A lot of people still care what the King says and it would be a good morale boost for public, unequivocal support.

Even my American friends who lean GOP are a bit weirded out by the obsession...

I'm not sure America or Canada could survive an actual annexation attempt. Bob and Sally from London are essentially indistinguishable from Joe and Jane from Detroit. I'm not sure Americans would put up with the increased security required to keep people, who are essentially indistinguishable from them, from doing bad things.

Canada has about the population of 2001 Iraq and Afghanistan combined, if even a small fraction of the population decides to go "Snow Taliban", America would be in for a brutal and pointless fight.
I’ve no doubt that if they try that, there will be a cold 💩 in several thousand dead MAGAs. No doubt that we’ll lose but they won’t like the look and feel of that victory.

In the Navy I used to love going to the Portland Rose festival.

Now the place needs 3 or 4 weeks of IDF scale landscaping.
Portland is a perfect storm internally and externally. Internally, they are quite liberal by American standards and the bleeding hearts get into positions of power, whom put lots of focus on the homeless and addicted. Externally, there is a perverse incentive where other communities within and outside the PNW act like psychopaths and would buy their troublemakers one way tickets to make them Portland or Seattle's problem. Either way, reform is needed like crazy. That will take the liberals and the Conservatives (mainly more rural Christians in the PNW) coming together to make a plan. What drives me nuts is so-called Christians viewing the addicted and homeless as sub-humans in these communities and liberals excusing all sorts of bad behaviour as if it's a human right to shoot up on a corner.

Gretzky still seemingly too scared to speak for himself or do his own damage control.

Why does it matter what he thinks or does? This whole annexation thing will turn into another COVID-19 type of doxing.

“We saw this man buy USA Apples in the Superstore, get him!” Disgraceful.

As opposed to the Head of State to our south? Who is burning the barn with the horses in it, but is also the head of the majority party in the legislative branch that he whipped to allow his tyranny?

Or the many failed African "Republics" that face coup after coup because the HoG and HoS are from rival factions?

We don't have an absolute monarchy, we have a constitutional monarchy. There's a difference and I am happy to support the stability it provides.

I didn't say I wanted to the DJT as my HoS or some African tin pot republic. Why would you imply that ? Or why would you jump to that alternative ? Surly to god the only options aren't an absent royal family or deranged lunatic.

If you're happy with our HoS being silent about the current situation so be it, I am not. And I can tell you what I am hearing and reading tells me some Canadians are noticing that silence too.

It seems to me we Canadians are finding ourselves alone, and I think the silence from our HoS and mother country are telling.

Perhaps its time we Canadians decided to cut ties with a past.

Canadians seem to be more and more agreeing with that.

The Mother Country IMO should start taking a back seat in our history - we won't forget either of those countries - but the UK seems to be going the way of a tin pot dictatorship. The last good PM was - Tony Blair?

I don't know enough about UK internal politics to really get into that. But I want to see Canada stop looking for direction from others.

Eastern Oregon wants to cede from the western bit as fast as they can.

PM is meeting with the King to discuss.
