U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

… and despite the fact that Alberta has the highest support for the idea, a merger is not a popular idea in the province.

Ref: Canada as 51st State? Four-in-five Americans say a merger should be up to Canadians; 90% of us say ‘no’ -

At the national level, women seem particularly unenthusiastic.

The national demographic breakdowns show there’s higher support among men, at 19%, compared with only 7% of women.

I cannot for the life of me imagine why.

I can't either.

Not much enthusiasm from young women on either side of the border.

38% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Trump ( Republican ) in the 2024 election.

32% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Trump ( Republican ) in the 2020 election.

30% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Trump ( Republican ) in the 2016 election.

32% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Romney ( Republican ) in the 2012 election.

29% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported McCain ( Republican ) in the 2008 election.

I wonder why more women supported Trump in 2024, especially with Harris running.

Because....she's a moron, and her fellow women could also see that? (Jk jk...kinda)

I think more women voted for Trump because everybody across the spectrum were feeling less & less psyched for the 'Biden'O'mics' economy, the drastic rise in the cost of living, feeling like their government abandons them during environmental emergencies, and the rapid spread of corruption amongst the nation's institutions...

...unless we've all had it wrong all along, and we should have been spraying ourselves orange all these years?

Draw your own conclusions.

61% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Harris ( Democratic ) in the 2024 election.

67% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Biden ( Democratic ) in the 2020 election.

63% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Clinton ( Democratic ) in the 2016 election.

66% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Obama ( Democratic ) in the 2012 election.

69% of young women ( 18 - 29 ) supported Obama ( Democratic ) in the 2008 election.

according to Wiki (so grain of salt etc.) "Puerto Ricans have been US citizens since 1917... " . there is also this

"All persons born in Puerto Rico on or after April 11, 1899, and prior to January 13, 1941, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, residing on January 13, 1941, in Puerto Rico or other territory over which the United States exercises rights of sovereignty and not citizens of the United States under any other Act, are declared to be citizens of the United States as of January 13, 1941. All persons born in Puerto Rico on or after January 13, 1941, and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, are citizens of the United States at birth."
Yeah, I don't really understand it -- I talked to another former PR retired Military member today - and he said the citizenship issue is odd - that one born in PR is technically a US citizen, but is also a Puerto Rican citizen (and the US recognizes people born in PR as Dual Citizenship American and Puerto Rican). Apparently if one has a PR Citizenship it can be also used to get dual citizenship with Spain, but he didn't know what that entailed regarding ones US Citizenship.

We don't have a Federal government, certainly not one that the Premiers trust. Strangely, in 1867, the Premiers signed on to this Confederation thing on the grounds that they were hiring a Federal government to manage these exact negotiations - inter-provincial disputes, international negotiations and national defence/security.

A hundred a some years later we have a Federal government focused on handing out baby bonuses, threatening provincial interests and clueless about how to negotiate with other countries.
Just because we have a incompetent government doesn’t mean the provinces get to step outside their lane.

This has been happening more and more recently, someone needs to strongly indicate what responsibilities both sides have and to follow them. It is the beauty of our system, clearly defined roles that unfortunately we choose to ignore for political purposes.

cutting off oil is stupid it provides no benefit to Canada just let the tariff work do its own destructive work the same with Quebec hydro. Unless of course Trumps bluffing and he doesnt tariff those things
Just read an article that stated that Trumps tariffs would add as much as forty cents to gallon of gas and possible as much as seventy cents. That would peeve off a lot of Americans.

Easterners are ignorant to westerners much like why so many Canadians dislike America… envy.

Rest easy Remius, the equalization money is still flowing, for now.
nah i still got the tar and feathers

Federal govt being lambasted for not building enough housing (a provincial or municipal responsibility) enters the chat
The Federal government doesn't get a clean hand in that due to them messing with the demographics to a extreme though things they do control (immigration).

The Federal government created the housing crisis by doing unheard of levels of immigration without any sort of plan as to how we were going to house them. If we had followed historical population growth (roughly 100-250k a year) by immigration our population would be sitting at the high end of 38,851,000 (and that is the high end estimating 250k a year). Odds are the housing market wouldn't have gone insane, rent would be much lower, and the population would be in a much better position. Instead we are at over 40 million, possibly almost 42 million today.

We didn't even bring in the skilled labour we need (skilled trades, nurses, doctors, etc.), rather a bunch of minimum wage workers who we already create enough of in country.

Give it another day and you'll be able to buy those same hats on Aliexpress for 8$ instead of the 55$ that they are selling for on the companies website. Also note that the hat is made in either Vietnam or Bangladesh and maybe, maybe the stitching is done here in Canada.

Doug Ford’s hat making the news and making a local business have a good problem to have.

Maybe, but normally those 2-3 million or so would have gone to the bigger cities. Covid causing the folks moving from said bigger cities to small towns because of remote work is also at play.

If Covid wasn’t a factor, the bigger cities would see the housing price increases, but I doubt that rural NS would have seen it to the same extent as now.

Also, is the housing plan a federal or provincial (or municipal) responsibility? Sure there should be some liaison, but I’m guessing that would be back-channel stuff that isn’t necessarily public.
