Many of us will say uniformed members are duty bound (you swore an oath of allegiance et el) to support the government, regardless of your personal thoughts and feelings. (I personally think this way)

In this hypothetical 51st state situation how many of those (us) same people would turn around and say we need to defy the government IF the government capitulated and supported being annexed by the US?

If the executive branch led by the PM supported annexation, the opposition parties were split, Canadians themselves were divided and still the executive branch ie cabinet capitulated it would depend on what the crown decided.
It would be a mess but ultimately it is the GG as the representative of the Crown that would need to decide.
If the GG decided to ignore their executive and first minister and not support annexation then in line with all oaths of allegiance, the CAF, the ministers etc. should support that decision. If the cabinet refused then the CAF should still support the crown if we are looking purely at oaths of allegiance.

The CAFs allegiance is to the Crown not the government.

Annexation would necessarily mean a constitutional change away from the office of the Monarchy and Viceregal. That’s a s. 41 constitutional amendment- unanimously supported assent of all ten provincial legislatures and both Houses of Parliament. Never gonna happen.

When I was a Navigable Waters Protection Officer , travelling the US, I saw a bumper sticker saying "Navigability in law, is navigability in fact" Which is a quote from a court case known well to us, but not to most. Warmed my little NWPA heart!
