Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Another former Chretien-ite calling for PMJT to GTFO (link also archived here) ....
Interesting mechanism he suggests for punting the incumbent ....

Don't know if I'd agree with the final sentence, but intriguing, indeed ...

Sounds like a re-write of the plan that resulted in Kamala Harris.

Democracy if necessary but not necessarily democracy. 😁

missing two variables to the plan: NDP and Bloc. Would both be better off if they pulled the plug now rather than risk the uncertainty of the new leadership and plan? Granted the NDP is low on funds but they hitched their wagon to Trudeau and without him they could fare even worse. The Bloc stands to make big gains with Trudeau as leader an unknown puts that in jeopardy

The chorus is certainly getting louder and the sharks are circling.
Honestly, I want to see him stay for the next little while so that once PP smartens up and takes his security clearing read-in, we can see some more meaningful engagement. If that means we end up seeing impact of any hush-clauses, so be it, but we need to take the extant threat seriously…at the moment, I think Canadians think it’s just a political
Tit for tat thing, not a fundamental threat to our democratic institutions.

If PP was implicated in this meaning his name was on the list would he be able to get a SC ?

‘Implicated’ how?

It seems that implicated currently has tow potential meanings:

1) a victim of overt action, like Erin O’Toole or Michael Chong; or

2) a collaborateur, supporting the PRC’s effort to influence Canadian institutions.

I would be genuinely surprised if Poilievre is one of the latter.

Either or.

I agree with you, I'm just playing a 'what if' game.

If this is to be believed, wish granted (for now, anyway) :)

Of course his leadership isn’t in danger. He had the LPC constitution changed so the caucus members have no power to oust him. No other Canadian political party’s constitution supports such a draconian power-grab.

The only things they can do are:

1) case by case - breaking from party-whipped vote, in particular for a confidence vote; or

2) leave caucus and either sit as an independent or cross the floor.

I'd LOVE to see Option 1, especially if enough people "call in sick" to make a difference. Then again, I'm likely dreaming because that would take some cojones on the part of the walkers. So far, only one has come out in public ....
We'll see how caucus goes tomorrow.

What about
3) uninvolved (but possibly knowing) benefactor to activities described in 1?

Yes... or

4) a future ring leader of government and the nat security apparatus that received many briefings on CCP electoral interference and since party was benefiting from that did and said nothing and now pretends to not have been told while stonewalling the outcome of the inquiry.

... or 3a) uninvolved (and not knowing) benefactor to activities described in 1?

I suggest that because a few cynics out there are saying there's got to be a reason Team Blue's info-machine chose these phrases in the 16 Oct letter (full text attached) responding to Trudeau's "I have a list" @ the Hogue Commission (highlights mine):

Late edit to add: compare those lines to this on the online petition calling for a release of the names (again, highlights mine) ....

IMHO, India's actions are more driven by internal goals, where China's are more driven by external goals.

You missed a third one. Being a trudeau implied, unidentified, non liberal politician that likely doesn't exist.

You can't right a shinking ship. No matter who you put on damage control. I don't think new blood can stop the hemorrhaging the party is experiencing. It'll probably be a couple of election cycles before the liberals regain any of the trust they've lost with voters.

You actually can right a sinking ship: That is exactly the whole point of damage control. ;)
