Canada Gazette
... Honourable Michaëlle Jean, is pleased to advise, as Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian
Armed Forces, that the following military badges have been approved: ..
The Canada Gazette uses both CAF and CF, go figure. Captain Sensible states it is a myth. At the time I looked it up, I was the G1 at CBG, with the responsibility for recruiting as one of my terms of reference. The dispute with the recruiting system was that their media advertising was always Reg F. The suggestion was to add a blurb at the end of the e.g. TV ad, "Full Time or Part Time" or " Reg F or Res ". Also the CFRC tricolour banner was Canadian Armed Forces, one word on each coloured line. CF Recruiting Group of course poo pooed they idea from a mere Reservist - lack of space. So told them of the name change circ 1969 from CAF to CF. So there was space available. Found it in QR & O's. Remember hearing of it in the media at the time. and the uproar from Vets. I believe it was an Order In Council. A few months later it was changed. That does not mean I had any influence in the change, but that's my story. Also suggest a "bus wrap" of CF pers and eqpt for city transit buses at that time.
PS Phoned the officer in charge of CF Recruiting Group advertising in NDHQ to complain about how our quarterly print advertising was not the ad requested/day/media source. He told me he could not do anything about it as it was out of his hands, etc. Reluctantly, very, very, he told me the name of the media contractor. I phoned the contractor in Montreal to try and find out the answer as to why our requests were changed. Left a message with the company receptionest to have the account manager phone me back. Two days later, got a phone call from a Colonel in NDHQ who apologised for the CF Recruiting Group desk officer attitude, but said "please" never ever, ever contact that advertising company again. So guess which company was eventually caught in Ad Scam? True story.
