LPC leadership race - 2025

I don’t think any of you have asked this question or addressed this - ‘What has Trump said or done since Carney has announced as the new Liberal leader and our soon to be sworn in PM?’
Has Trump congratulated him
? Has Trump called him ‘Governor’? Has Trump said that he’s someone that he can worked with?
If we haven’t gotten a sense of these things yet then Trump isn’t looking for a deal with us, he’s out to break us.

I like boring competent managers a la Harper.

Carney would be that if not for his being another Butts/Telford/Chin meat puppet…
Paul Martin was also more boring manager than leader; he also had the guts to make some big spending cuts that were needed to get the deficit under control.

I will take competent managers over populist 'leaders' that flip on a dime to whatever is the trending and run out of depth once you get past the 30 second tiktok clip any day. I've had enough of leadership by soundbites for one lifetime.

By that line of thinking, with only 62% of illegible voters casting a ballot, no Canadian Govt is 'democratic'.
Not at all the same. They made a democratic decision to vote "no one", I disagree with them for that but it's their right. One is a question of exercising one's rights, the other is a statistical aberration made possible by an antiquated voting system. Don't you think the Tories would want a level playing field when it came to vote efficiency?

I just want a government that won't turn my legally obtained and used property prohibited.

Is that too much to ask ? Don't answer, I know.

Yes, but what if your legally obtained property had a copy of it somewhere obtained illegally and used by a criminal to cause harm to other criminals?! Why are you being so selfish?!

And how do you define vote efficiency? 7 people vote: 3 right side, 2 centrist but maybe slightly left, and 2 really left leaning with ideas that the other 5 voters don't want. The right side has taken the election but when you tally up the side votes we end up with significant representation from the loony left who pull the country in directions that no one wanted. (if you wish you can shift the votes and give us a really right side position as happened in Germany). There is no way around having a constant compromise that satisfies none of the major groups but gives the fringe a greater say then their numbers would dictate. For all its failings, first past the post is the better way.

the law doesn't do a thing to stop that individual, it only serves to limit the honest one.

"Meat puppet": I'm stealing that.

Someone on another forum posted that Carney has said a new PMO; implying no Telford et al. I can't attribute that. Regardless, it will just be a continuation of government run by unelected, unaccountable party staffer who most Canadians don't know, rather than a Prime Minister who is accountable to an uncowed Cabinet and to Parliament. A 'new PMO' just means different and currently unknown inmates running the asylum.

Great. Liberals run the government forever with the NDP and Greens licking their boots for scraps.
Actually, a true coalition government would have the other parties share power (seats in Cabinet, etc.).

I don't think the LPC handlers will allow that.

It sure didn't take LPC partisans to get their old arrogant swagger back again. That is what really pisses me off about these guys. They think that the LPC is Canada and all others do not have the right to have any say in the direction of the country.

If Carney wins the election I predict nothing will change in this country. No renewal of the Public Service, no real change in foreign and defence policy, a scattering of big project ideas that go into the perpetual study cesspool, and a continued control of government by a small cabal of UoT, McGill, and Harvard grads who are the great grand sons and daughters of Desmarais Group Executives!
