LPC leadership race - 2025

Freeland just dropped her 2% GDP on defense by 2027 plan

View attachment 91091

Looking at this again it’s actually interesting in what she is not saying. Nor is any contender.
How are they going to raise the 2% of GDP?
They have likely three immediate options;
1. Incur more deficit spending;
2. Raise taxes;
3. Cut funding from something and reallocate to defence;

The longer term option is to grow the GDP and allocate all new taxe revenues on that growth to the 2% of GDP defence budget. How do they propose to grow the economy?

That one pager is worthless as it offers no ability to evaluate its costs. None of this is serious and it shows, if Canadians are willing to look.

Number 3 COA is a non starter for Liberals. How dare you suggest it.., 😉

If Freeland said, “I will kick Katie Telford and her PMO ilk out the door!” she might have a bit more credibility…but the cabal will no doubt stay, particularly as China’s the Laurentian Elites’ candidate is anointed…

PM staffs the PMO, full stop. If Telford/Butts & Co. are backing Carney as much as most say they are, I'd put their chances of being in a Freeland PMO (at least those at the Telford/Butts level, anyway) are right up there with Chretien political staffers being invited into a Martin PMO.

Mind you, things are happening in 2025 on all fronts that weren't on people's bingo cards, too, so I should never say never.

Telford and Butts for Senate appointments. Still allows them to "run" Carney.

I guess we’ll see what happened with the LPC’s transparent leadership vote…and go from there.

They just appointed three senators a couple days ago, no?
Yup

Even in the future, though, I'd be surprised if Freeland, if she wins the leadership, appoints Butts/Telford to the Senate given they're backing the opposition.

I’m surprised to see him naming a former cop and also NDP provincial candidate to the Senate.

Don't know the guy personally, and if he's working anti-gang stuff, he's doing something important and has something to contribute. I suspect the more cynical will point to this in the info-machine bio as a rationale: "a lifelong advocate for diversity and inclusion."

QC senator (links to info-machine bio), having been a CFIB-ite, could bring Paul-Martin-like vibes, but again, doubting Thomas' will say it's a "gift" to QC.

The SK dude (links to PM info-machine bio) sounds like he could be a serious voice for many things ag & ag logistics, and may actually pipe up about the West. Again, doubters'll say this is just a token Western appointment who's forever tied to the apron strings of the appointee, so we'll see.
