Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

Yup!
Crazy. Almost like it’s what I’ve been saying the whole time. The NDP are policy driven, and they know they won’t advance their policy at all under a CPC majority. Why would they collapse their best chance to achieve at least a portion of the things they want for another yeah?

Singh was a criminal defense lawyer. He knows all about making the best play with the hand you’re dealt, and making a deal while you can even if you’re unavoidably going to eat some shit in the end.

Anyone who hasn’t expected this hasn’t thought objectively about what’s in the NDP’s best interest.

Is it in the NDP's best interests, or in their best short-term interests? It's obvious that the longer the LPC stay in power, the longer the NDP can force concessions, but what is the long term cost of that choice?

Being too closely tied to the LPC could easily see the NDP collapse entirely, particularly if members/voters think that voting NDP just means LPC in orange. Why not just vote for the real thing, and have a say in the actual policies and leadership of the party that holds the actual power?

Nah, too much happens over the span of four or eight years. Better a bird in the hand than two in the bush; they’re about to be out in the cold for a government or two, and most of the current NDP caucus probably won’t be around to see their next opportunity to meaningfully impact legislation.

"Singh said he doesn't support the Liberals and insisted his party is ready for an election campaign whenever the time comes, but he's not going to make that happen unless he feels it will help Canadians." I wonder what his criteria is for helping Canadians? The majority are screaming out to turf the bums, food bank usage is way up, bankruptcies are up, the dollar is down, housing is unobtainable so what is his bottom line?

In case you're keeping track, the latest on fundraising (in millions of dollars) for the first 3 quarters of this year (edited, with thanks to @YZT580 ....

I feel that Cdns will see through Singh and his electoral support plummet. He will go up in the despised listing. There could also be caucus member revolt via more "retirements". Only the hard core will stand by Singh. Is that 18/20 % of the polls? Doubt it.

Listening to his rhetoric, I have not a clue what he and his party can do or suggest or make things better for Cdns till Oct 2025 especially as the HoC cannot do any government business until Trudeau gives up the Green Slush Fund unreacted documents.

What are his specific plans and wants to achieve his rhetoric?

I just think they’re weak gormless weasels. “Please consider resigning, sir”.
What other practical options do they have?

Would you quit a $203K a year job with guaranteed annual increases just because you thought the boss might cost you your job next year? Would you paint a target on yourself for the PMO? The same PMO that ruthlessly sacrificed several high profile ministers already to save the PM..

There is nothing to be gained for them at this time. They don't have the ability/authority to force him out of office, without throwing away $200K+ of pay. I love my country, but even I'd be tempted to ride it out until the next scheduled election for that amount of money.

Edit: that's about double a CPO 2/MWO salary, before factoring in MP's other benefits.

I don’t disagree. If they weren’t willing to play hardball, they probably should have just sucked it up. This way, they looked extremely weak and got nothing anyway.

Did they, or did they open a crack in Trudeau's armour?

With someone like Trudeau, you are never going to force him out all at once, you need to apply pressure over time. I see this as more like an earthquake on a volcano that is getting ready to erupt.

We’ll see. He’s a malignant narcissist who desperately wants to take on Poilievre and believes he’s divinely chosen to do so. Also working in his favour is there is no time for a leadership race and only a sadomasochist would be interested in the job at this point.

If Trudeau wants to fulfill his saviour complex, they should let him. Then the party can rebuild after the election.

Plus also maybe wanting to hang on until at least this is over next summer, no ...
... where ...
... Canada will assume the Presidency and work with G7 partners on common priorities, such as building economies that benefit everyone, fighting climate change, and managing rapidly evolving technologies ...
One last visit to the podium, rather than letting someone else?
