Joining the American Military

because many professional soldiers are lured by a powerful and famous military.Kinda like moving up to the big leagues or something..... if you find that offending, you shouldnt, our budget here in the CF is what is offending.

Plus, it can be argued that by serving in the US forces you are defending canada as much as you are the US.

I just dont get it... I understand the govt spending is a complete insult, the military is considered a joke in their eyes. But i just cant understand how you can defend another flag... and dont even get me started with fighting for the US is fighting for Canada...

Canada fights for Canada...we dont send others to do our dirty work we do our own. You can serve in Iraq if you want as a Canadian. Just asked to be posted to an american unit as a canadian soldier or better yet take up the challenge of joining the JTF and serve with them ... you want bigger and better, those are both bigger and better options, that have you serving under the flag of the country you support and live in.  :cdn:

Another thing Orange, is that the Marines for example have a unique experience that you can not get in Canada and anywhere else in the world for that matter..

How about people with 2 citezenships? which flag should they fight for? I'll fight for the country thats closest to my heart, doesn't have to be the country you were born in...

I already chose so serve in the CF. Gathering this info is just a point of interest for me, I had never heard about this native thing before and wanted to know if it was true. While the marines have a certain "allure" I can't imagine living down there just for that.

I have done some checking and it is possible for new recruits to enlist in the Army at a higher rank if the person has completed some college [E-2] to the individual with a 4 year degree [E-4]. Foreign degree's have to be evaluated. The standard seems to be the Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education book published by the American Council on Education. You might find a copy at your library. Evidently some non US colleges are included. If US colleges will accept work done in the UK then I am sure Canadian colleges would get the same consideration.

There is alway's the Foreign Legion.

Doesn't only something like 4 out of about 200 people who apply make it in? Good luck with that.

I am a dual citizen, living in canada born in canada. If i were to be living in the states, it would be a different story. Id be fighting for the US

i just heard some more news about this situation i was told that candians can join if they have a I55 card and give up there canadian citezenship. Can anyboady tell how i get a I55 card ? and is that the same as a green card?

m payne...

Many Americans and CDNs hold duel citizenship.   You should explore that before ever renuunciating your citizenship. Have you tried to enlist in the CF?

i have an aplication with the cf now but they have been dickin me around for way too long and it is going to be even longer not too mention i havnt even done my medical which they will probably make me wait for that too so i have decide to examine a carrer with my brothers too the south

If any1 has information on that I55 card, please post, I'm very interested in this issue

Sweet, American military recruiting on a Canadian Army forum.  ::)
I can just imagine the look on an American recruiters face if he stumbled across this thread. :blotto:

As long as it's not a discussion on how to join the mujahadeen then it's fine.

atticus, I do not find the slogans in your signature appropriate.  I am referring to the Chinese characters you have in the last line of your signature.

I am currently weighing options, I love Canada and I would more than love to serve here, but lets face it, our cf-18 pilots (from what I have heard anyway) are hardly flying enough hours to stay current.
I want to fly more than anything, but i want to actually be flying. A pilot in name only is not very good.

I read on the USNA.edu website that the naval academy is open to 60 foreign nationals a year, i say this because,My dad (non-us citizen), and step mom (US citizen) are currently living down south.

Do you need citizenship to be accepted at the academy, a sponsor... anyone know?

Thanks
Rich
