The idea is not new, just the tech available.

It’s an armored car. Think more Brinks money moving or Riot control work.Apparently Roshel has manufactured and delivered 100 of them for Ukraine. In service with the Border Guards in the Chernihiv area at least.

Got to say - it looks like a better runabout than the TAPV.
What the base price difference though? Likley this comes in about 1/2 the price of those. Certainly the others are likley more capable, but do you need that level for what we would use them for? I would see them more a replacement for the G wagon.The Roshel Senator is built on the Ford F550 chassis

The F550 (stock) has a GVWR of 8 to 9 tonnes with a curb weight (unarmoured) of 3.5 tonnes. That puts it into the JLTV, Thales Hawkei class of vehicles or LVM(Light) class.

I’d never suggest it for a Military vehicle.
The biggest issue with the TAPV Canada got is the version, the actual system isn’t really bad for some roles, for whatever reason Canada bought the worst version in the line to do anything with.

Still have exposed fuel lines etc.I think things like the Roshel is good for 2nd line duties, where the main risk is shrapnel and occasional small arms. Likley a good replacement for our Milcots that we pretend are frontline vehicles.

It was a regular force vehicle, that was a needed item at the time, and the time every military had an unarmored ‘jeepish’ vehicle.
Recall the complaints about the Hummer in Afghanistan and Iraq…
The Belgian Para’s used their Iltis’s as well in Afghanistan.
There is nothing wrong with some soft skin vehicles in the Military - but theatre threat needs to be considered for what role they play.
Yes, the issue is however now you need two or more vehicles for entities. The soft skins work for some missions, but for others you end up in a JLTV type thing.What's old is new again. Really how different is an MRZR D4 than an iltis or a WW2 jeep. Light weight 4x4 carries that 4 people.
