British Military Current Events

And a hundred years before that you had the Kings German Legion which was a part of Wellingtons forces in his Peninsula campaigns and at Waterloo.
And let's not forget the Hanoverians' own house troops from Hanover and Hesse - on the British payroll since 1715.

Stage set for British Army bearskins debate after petition gets 100,000+ signatures

A petition - set up by celebrity Alesha Dixon - to swap in faux fur on the Queen's Guards' caps has received more than 100,000 signatures.

Ahead of the debate, the Government responded: "Bear pelts that are used are the by-products of a licensed cull by the Canadian authorities to manage the wild bear population."

"Bears are never hunted to order for use by the MOD," it added.

The response also claimed the proposed fake fur "showed unacceptable rates of water shedding and performed poorly on the visual assessment."
"MOD do use man-made alternatives in their uniforms where these provide suitable, affordable and sustainable alternative to animal products. For example the smaller busby hats worn by the King's Troop are made from faux fur.

"Unfortunately, there is currently no non-animal alternative available that meets the essential criterion for the Queen's Guards ceremonial caps."

Add to the fact that petroleum products are used to make faux fur - where is the outrage from environmentalists?????

RAF could ditch fitness tests for tech specialists, service chief suggests

Attracting recruits who handle data rather than fighter jets could see a change to entry testing, the Chief of the Air Staff hints.

The head of the RAF wants to start a conversation about fitness requirements for future recruits in niche roles who are removed from the battlefield.

Specialists in the data and digital world play an increasingly decisive role in modern combat and communication, but must currently have to pass the same entry tests as those who get close to the enemy.

Pressed on the issue at an annual air and space power conference, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston said physical and health-related standards will likely stay the same for many.

They should deploy the RAF Regiment with the sprinkler .... their role is airfield security after all!

British Army instructor blasts the body positivity movement for 'promoting obesity' and making new recruits 'soft' - and slams 'snowflake' youngsters who 'moan about anything'

  • Farren Morgan, 36, is a physical training instructor for Coldstream Guards
  • The London-based fitness expert says body positivity is 'promoting obesity'
  • He said images of bigger bodies in the media are making people bigger
  • Farren added that people will 'moan about anything' and need to 'grow a pair'

The 'body positivity' movement is promoting obesity and making new recruits soft, according to one of the Queen's elite protection soldiers.

Serving Queen's Guard Lance Sgt Farren Morgan, 36, said the trendy movement has led to snowflake recruits performing under-par physically and 'shying away' from hard work.

Farren, who works as a physical training instructor for the Coldstream Guards in Westminster, London, insisted youngsters need to stop pretending it's 'okay' to be fat and said the body positivity movement is 'promoting obesity'.

He said: 'Recruits and candidates influenced by a lifestyle of body positivity lose sight of the importance of consistently maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle which translates into a decline in their physical performance.

Jolly good show!

British weapon supply flights, the first taking off before the invasion started, continue day and night to supply Ukraine with weapons with which to defend itself against invading Russian forces.

The supply flights started before the invasion and have not stopped since. However, they now land in Poland near the Ukrainian border.

The UK recently announced that it would supply “scores of artillery guns, hundreds of drones” plus 50,000 rounds and more anti-tank weapons to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

“The delivery of the new equipment will significantly step up the UK’s support as the country fights to repel Russia’s brutal and unjustified invasion.”

More than 20 M109 155mm self-propelled guns and 36 L119 105mm artillery guns will soon arrive from the UK, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace announced in an update to Parliament today. Counter-battery radar systems and more than 50,000 rounds of ammunition for Ukraine’s existing Soviet-era artillery will also follow, he added.

British Army has been busy recently - a lot of concurrent activity.

In addition to training up 10,000 Ukrainians.....

Light Cavalry exercise in the Carrick Hills of SW Scotland with the Danes - using civvy satellite comms

16 AAB Exercise in North Macedonia with 7 other NATO allies

Deploying armour from UK to Eastern Europe

One thing that stood out was the emphasis on logistics in all of the exercises. 16AAB Brigadier pointing out his largest unit was his logistics unit.

The other interesting bit was the use of the RoRo Hurst Point. Hurst Point is a contract vessel, not an RFA vessel. It is contracted from the civilian market by the MOD for priority call.

A couple of other interesting videos from Estonia

Royal Welsh working with Estonians, Danes and French (Chasseurs Alpins) in a battle group of 1400.

Royal Welsh and Royal Tanks working with an Estonian light brigade.

A lot of mixing and matching going on.

And one more for the record - back in Carrick

The Brits and Danes, light cavalry mounted in Gwagens and Jackals, storming and seizing an airfield - dismounted and close quarters battle in a built up area at the edge of a large flat area with zero cover.

That was our bread and butter...

Big learning?

There was a reason we sent in 2 x Parachute Battalions to 'break and enter' the airfield: the odds were that at least one platoon would be left alive to occupy the control tower ;)

Taking control of and holding an airfield has to be one of the most difficult operations I could ever envision.

Or am I wrong?

Something about trying to take a large piece of open ground, surrounded by infrastructure, and probably reinforced to the teeth due to it's importance to AD and Air Superiority; that would make not make it a target of opportunity for an airborne or air assault attack. Not unless you are willing to throw wave upon wave of pers and equipment at the problem.

Makes more sense to me to disable it with munitions and pick up the pieces as part of the rest of the offensive.
