Only 10,000? I assume that they aren't allowing runs ashore in Merthyr Tydfil anymore :)

And I thought that Jane Siberry's lyrics "slags of Merthyr Tydfil" was in reference to the coal tips, however when you google that phrase the results should best not be viewed on a DND computer.

Royal Navy's most advanced destroyers break down in the Gulf because the water is too WARM, bungling defence chiefs admit

-Type-45 destroyers can conk out in water warmer than Portsmouth Harbour
-The £1bn ships are being retrofitted with diesel motors for back up power
-The Ministry of Defence has insisted the vessels are safe to deploy
-But former First Sea Lord Admiral West slams the failure to find errors

Has anyone checked to see if they switched the system from heat to cool?

I know I get the same problem in spring and fall with my HVAC system.

Speaking of one of the Type 45 destroyers having issues mentioned above:

HMS Dauntless temporarily reduced to harbour training ship
By George Allison -
June 14, 2016

It’s no secret that HMS Dauntless has endured the most issues relating to the widely reported propulsion issues currently found in the Type 45 Destroyers. While a remedy is being worked on and the vessel will eventually return to operations, this will not be for a few years yet.

A parliamentary written question has confirmed what many have feared, that the vessel will not be leaving Portsmouth for some time.

Asked by Douglas Chapman (MP for Dunfermline and West Fife)

I hope that the same designers and builders never design and build submarines.

To be fair,  all ships have some difficulty in warm waters like those.  It's hard on the equipment and crews.

And for submarines, water cooling of equipment at -800 feet is not much of a problem anywhere in the world.  :snowman:  [:D

UK in Talks with Pentagon for JLTV Buy
Andrew Chuter, Defense News 8:08 p.m. EDT June 16, 2016

PARIS – The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle could be in line to win its first export order even before the US Department of Defense makes a decision to order full rate production of the platform.

The UK’s Ministry of Defence has revealed it is in talks with the Pentagon, which might lead to a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal. The British Army is interested in acquiring the Oshkosh Defense vehicle, set to replace the Army and Marine Corps Humvees, to meet part of a requirement known as the Multi-Role Vehicle-Protected (MRV-P).

“We can confirm that we are talking to the US DOD regarding package 1 [of MRV-P], to inform our understanding of an FMS option for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle,” said an MoD spokesman.

Chilcot Inquiry: Blair 'to blame intelligence failings' as he faces legal action from families

Tony Blair is expected to blame intelligence failures over Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction for his controversial decision to take Britain to war, as he faces legal action from the families of troops killed in the conflict.

Sources close to the former Prime Minister signalled he will point out “the intelligence we received was wrong” as he prepares to defend himself against heavy censure from Sir John Chilcot's seven-year-long Iraq Inquiry.

Families of the 179 British soldiers, sailors and airmen who died during the US-led military intervention are preparing to take civil action that could “bankrupt” Mr Blair if Sir John's inquiry finds he acted wrongly over the war.

Edit: Deleted.

Just assume it was another rant against the multitude of chair-warmers who don't actually have to make time-sensitive decisions on often limited information, and live with those decisions.

Chilcot report: Tony Blair's Iraq War case not justified

Tony Blair overstated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, sent ill-prepared troops into battle and had "wholly inadequate" plans for the aftermath, the UK's Iraq War inquiry has said.

Chairman Sir John Chilcot said the 2003 invasion was not the "last resort" action presented to MPs and the public.

There was no "imminent threat" from Saddam - and the intelligence case was "not justified", he said.

Mr Blair apologised for any mistakes made but not the decision to go to war.

The report, which has taken seven years, is on the Iraq Inquiry website.
