    CFB Cold Lake Thread- Merged

I've spent a lot of time up in Cold Lake for short periods of TD (from a couple days to a few months at a stretch).. These were between '99 and '04, so what I remember may be different now. Nightlife was decent, although the bars tended to go up and down in popularity. You just need to find the...

    Proper protocol for Officer Cadets

Just out of curiosity, maybe the Navy members here can answer me this.. Is there a policy to salute Naval Cadets in Esquimalt? Maybe along the lines of the Gagetown rule that was mentioned earlier? I don't know if it's just because that little stripe on combats is hard to see and people decide...

    Proper protocol for Officer Cadets

It's one of those mistakes you'll only make once.  ;D

The Going To Esquimalt Thread- PAT, PMQ, Etc.- Merged

I have a PMQ in Esquimalt, a two bedroom single with a basement, and I can't complain about what I've got. The place is small, with only 800sq feet upstairs, and another 800sq feet downstairs, but it suits my needs (and was fine when I was living with my girlfriend). The insulation isn't that...

Wearing Of Contact Lenses While On Duty

Exactly what Geo said. I checked it out extensively for 6 months before finally deciding to go for it (although I've been considering it for years), I highly suggest anyone who is interested do their own research before signing up for anything, don't take anyone's word as gospel. One thing I did...

Wearing Of Contact Lenses While On Duty

Some mornings they're a little dry, but no more than if I wore my contacts for 16 hours straight.. It only lasts for the first minute or two after I get up. I was a V4, borderline V5 so it's nice to be able to actually see properly.

Wearing Of Contact Lenses While On Duty

I used the contacts you can leave in for a week while in the field on CAP, I didn't have any problems at all with them.. All the other times I used disposable ones that I took out at night. I find your peripheral vision is better, my shooting was better (although my glasses were made in...

    Step aside Hell's Angels...

Yeah and every cyclist takes a car off the road.  ::) There may be some moron cyclists out there but there are some moron drivers as well. And most aren't hippies, they're just average people looking to get some exercise instead of sitting in traffic all day. The hippies are too busy playing...

    Sunglass recommendations?

Oakley Canada government program: Email pvrouvides@Oakley.com and ask about the program, he'll send you everything you need. It's not anywhere near everything Oakley carries, mainly just their more conservative frames and lenses. It also doesn't cover as much as the US program appears to (from...

DND Airline Agreement w/Air Canada exp 1 Apr 07

I used to go up to Cold Lake on TD fairly often, and I was never booked on anything other than Westjet into Edmonton. Great service, friendly agents. Sure beats being bumped off an Air Canada flight when coming home on your LTA because the flight is overbooked.

    Is there an "official" answer

Sorry I wasn't trying to generalize, just trying to put in my experience from my unit. I realize it's not all the same. We used to get the occasional Friday off in exchange for working Thurs night plus a weekend. And you still get 2 days per month leave while on class B.

    Is there an "official" answer

Keep in mind reservists on class B contracts are still expected to show up and perform daily, just like those in the reg force. They also are expected to parade on evenings and weekends with their class A brethren. You can also be "told" if you are on class B that you are going somewhere...

    Walking the dog???

Haha, yeah Comox is a good place to watch for that..

    Walking the dog???

I found his comment just as rude. He was not aware of my circumstances and he rushed to judgment on my "inaction". I merely repaid his comment in kind. I wasn't looking for a shooting match, I was just curious as to what others had seen/done about members of the CF who look like a bag of hammers...

    Walking the dog???

I have my reasons for not correcting that individual on the spot. I didn't agree with it, hence starting this post with my rant. But as I stated before, I will not defend my actions to you. Nor my "inaction".

    Walking the dog???

I don't need to defend my actions to you. At least you sorted me out, now only one of us is part of the problem!  ::) You mention this to the guy? I think it would totally be worth it just to see his face.

    Construction Technician (merged)

Carpenters in the military can do a lot of carpentry. I don't know much about the ACTs (Army side), but working base side and with AEFs (Air Force side) I got a lot of experience with actual carpentry. Base side you do tend to do more maintenance, but there were lots of interesting projects to...

    Walking the dog???

All I got whizzing by on my bike was a blue epaulet.. Hmmm, guess those ridiculous colours come in handy afterall :P

    Walking the dog???

Ok so this is more of a rant than anything.. Walking the dog, in uniform, with no beret, along a busy street? I mean, what the hell?! Have the dress regs changed recently? What ever happened to looking professional while in uniform? Any thoughts?
