You raise some interesting points. Another interesting point is that the US preemptive policy has proved very effective in curtailing terrorism on the US home front,, while most of the world sits back and watches. I think the US needs to let it all hang out and clean out the hornet's nest once...

I haven't heard the Bush administration say anything about withdrawing.   What makes you think they will? If it came down to it, a tactical withdrawal to the Kurdish North might make more sence since it wouldn't require the troop density of Iraq to sustain long term mil operations.

The only country that is in a position to invade Canada is the US and the probability of that happening isn't very good.   Even more MBTs wouldn't do much to deter them, if they ever did.   Sovereignty is a nice word, but it takes $$ to exercise it.
