He can’t wait too long. If the polling is good and he wants a mandate he should call an election as soon as he can.

The CPC has a well oiled and well funded machine. He would limit that by calling an election sooner rather than later.

I think so, yeah. Pragmatically, as you say, the iron is hot. As others have pointed out it also puts election act campaign spending limits in place.

I also think it’s the most ethical choice- give Canadians the chance to weigh in on who we want governing, and to desire if our new PM is in fact deserving of a seat in Parliament. To do otherwise would open him to a lot of justified criticism. I personally would be unhappy were an election not called promptly.

The electorate may see it as a way to minimize the damage caused by Trump. I can see Trump endorsing him as they are both businessman.
