FAIRFIELD, Conn. - A woman attempting to reconcile with her estranged husband handcuffed herself to him as he slept and then bit him on his torso and arms as he phoned for help, police said.

Helen Sun, 37, told police she wanted to have a conversation with Robert Drawbough without him leaving. She changed the locks on their bedroom door and, while he was sleeping Monday, handcuffed herself to him, authorities said.

Drawbough was able to dial 911 from his cellphone. Nearly out of breath, he told dispatchers he woke up handcuffed, was still bound to his wife and was holding her down, according to a recording released by police.

Dispatchers heard Drawbough scream in agony, apparently as his wife bit him.

"Owwww!," Drawbough shouts repeatedly. "Are they almost here? Oh God. I need help!"

Asked by dispatchers why his wife was attacking him, Drawbough said it was because he divorced her, adding that she had a history of violence.

Drawbough was treated at a hospital, police said.

Sun told investigators that restraining Drawbough was the only way she could get him to speak to her, authorities said.

Police charged Sun with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint.

She was being held on $15,000 bond after an appearance Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court, according to a court clerk. Sun was represented by a public defender who did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press.

Drawbough has been living in Los Angeles, but returned to Connecticut about a week ago, police said.

He told police his wife is obsessive and a danger to him and his friends and family. He said his wife hired private investigators to follow him, according to police. The status of their divorce was unclear.

Sun's mother said the couple had been married about eight years.

I have one thing to say to her......

HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU!!!!  ::)

Yeah, I read that today and thought "Way to attempt reconciliation!"  ::)

Although some guys would probably like the handcuffs and biting!  >:D

My question is this.... If she was wanting to reconcile did she seriously think that handcuffing him and consequently biting him would make things better? that he would run in to her arms and want to make things work? if so.. she needs help.... professional men in white coats help

No, she obviously didn't think he would run into her arms :p Sometimes, the only way to engage and maintain a serious discussion with someone who won't talk to you is to compel them to do so, although the use of handcuffs is taking the idea of constraining someone to speak a bit too literal... The biting is just the brain making her go reckless from losing control of the situation.

Is that experience talking?

Good thing I wasn't the officer taking the complaint...I might not have taken him all that seriously...

"You woke up handcuffed to your wife...and now she's biting you??  You lucky *******."  Not sure how well that would have gone over with the Sgt...

**Just realized army.ca automatically turned my word into a bunch of stars.  It wasn't that bad of a word...started with b and ended with d.  Just so ya don't think I was saying anything else!**

I refuse to answer on the grounds it may incriminate me...... :-X  ;)

On a serious note, the woman did have a history of violence.  I think if I were the guy, I would have been screaming too.  Seriously, how many of you would like to end up in bed with your psychotic ex?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Journeyman?  ;)

I'm confused.
The man was divorced or in the process of doing so.
If I was in that situation, I certainly would not be living under the same roof as the she-devil

So....
1. how did she get into the house?
2. how did she get the oportunity to change the locks on the bedroom door?

They were still living under the same roof and in the same bedroom at the time. My guess would be that he had just sprung the idea to leave her the previous night and refused to discuss the matter any further and went to bed.

JB... does not compute

Hmm ok, so divorced and still living with her? after leaving her due to a history of violence? sounds like it was bound to happen then... glutton for punishment perhaps?

1. Never underestimate a woman.  >:D
2. Never underestimate  a woman that is spurned in love, has 'issues' and is mentally unstable.  That is a bad, bad, bad combination!!!

Hell hath has no fury like a woman scorned...

Geez, I can think of about 10 much better uses for handcuffs. I'm thinking she was just bored and toying with him.

Cougars do that. ;)

I'm hoping my wife has the handcuffs ready for me when I get home...but first Cyprus and drinks all 'round!!!

Wife cuffs, bites estranged husband

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man is filing for divorce from his wife, who is accused of handcuffing herself to him in a bizarre attempt to reconcile.

In March, Fairfield police said they rescued Robert Drawbaugh at his home, where they found him handcuffed to his wife with bite marks on his torso and arms. They say he managed to use his cell phone to call for help.

Drawbaugh filed divorce papers in Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday, saying his seven-year marriage to 37-year-old Helen Sun had “broken down irretrievably.”

Sun is charged with assault and other crimes. Police say she told them she used the handcuffs because it was the only way she could have a full conversation with her husband.

Note to self.....the whole handcuffing your desperate/unstable self to you husband, not neccesarily your best option.  ::)

Hopefully, she doesn't handcuff herself to her lawyer when it doesn't work out for her. Craaaazzzzy!  :-[
