He remains in command at least until he is promoted to Radm. ;)

I wonder how many times his Engineering Officer has said "I'm given her all she's got Cap'n"

Navy to Christen Destroyer Michael Monsoor
(Source: U.S Navy; issued June 17, 2016)
WASHINGTON --- The Navy will christen the newest destroyer, USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), Saturday, June 18, during a 10 a.m. EDT ceremony at the General Dynamics-Bath Iron Works shipyard in Bath, Maine.

The second ship in the Zumwalt-class of destroyers, DDG 1001 is named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor. Sally Monsoor, petty officer Monsoor's mother, will serve as the ship's sponsor.

Retired Navy Vice Adm. Joseph Maguire will serve as the principal speaker. Highlighting the event will be Mrs. Monsoor breaking a bottle of sparkling wine across the bow to formally christen the ship-a time-honored Navy tradition.

The U.S. Navy’s new stealthy high-tech destroyer incorporates a range of emerging, not-yet-deployed technologies including new navigation, propulsion, auxiliary systems, computer systems, fire protection and damage control capabilities, service officials said.

The USS Zumwalt, the first in a series of three next-generation destroyers planned for the fleet, is slated to be operational by 2019.

Able to destroy budgets with just 1 round

Washington – Barely two weeks after the US Navy commissioned its newest and most futuristic warship, armed with two huge guns that can hit targets 80 miles away, the service is moving to cancel the projectiles for the guns, citing excessive costs that run up to $800,000 per round or more.

Makes the M982 Excalibre rounds seem like a deal at $200K-ish.  Although only a 25-ish mile range, you could still take out swarming pirates with that round from a fair ways away?

Ever notice how the mast in certain profile angles resembles a KKK hood?

Looks cold there. Nice pic's. The old admiral would have been proud.

USS Zumwalt Completes First Standard Missile Shot

The U.S. Navy Zumwalt-class stealth guided-missile destroyer USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) successfully executed its first live fire test of the MK 57 Vertical Launching System with a Standard Missile (SM-2) on the Naval Air Weapons Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) Sea Test Range, Point Mugu, on Oct. 13.

As the first-in-class ship, USS Zumwalt successfully demonstrated its capability to detect, track and engage an Anti-Ship Cruise Missile (ASCM) threat with a SM-2. The structural test fire assessed the material readiness of the ship against shock and vibration of the weapon firing, as well as measure any hazards or degradations as a result of firing live ordnance.
