US Presidential Election 2024 - Trump vs Harris - Vote Hard with a Vengence

As far as my pontificating about your opinions? Too bad. It's my opinion and you don't have any say about how I see things, what I believe or what I post. You're under no obligation to read my posts, nor am I obligated to answer someone because they want me to. Especially when I can see at the outset that all they want is a pissing contest.
You misread what I sad about your constant pontification. I said it isn’t so going to stop us. I could care less if you do it. You’ve been lecturing everyone for years about opinions so I don’t expect you to change that.

Now that this little tiff is done. Let’s discuss.

So will you be happy with 10% tariffs or not? We both know it won’t really be beneficial. Or are you hoping like me that Canada will get an exemption?

I'm willing to see them put in place and see the result. If they work, we can go higher on serious offenders. I don't know if they'll be beneficial or not to go with straight tarrifs. I hope they are, but you say I know they won't be beneficial. Actually, I know nothing of the sort. I expect we'll see a blended sytem at the start and then a move toward whatever system is working best. What I would like to see is a change in our government before we start any negotiations. The negotiations will be complicated. What I do know is that Trump thinks freeland is an idiot and trudeau is a two faced, back stabbing jerk. Not the bunch you want at the table. I would hope that it'll be up to the Conservatives to handle the negotiations. If we get exemptions, it'll be easier with PP than our current bunch of clowns.

So 10% tarif on Canadian goods going into the US? What result are you expecting? I see retaliatory measures and a hike in inflation.

We? As in the US?

I’m not sure what any of that means. What do you mean by “blended system”? And how would they be beneficial?

They did a pretty good job last time. But despite your hope, tariffs will likely hit us well before an election here and well before a renegocaition of the USMCA. My guess is that tarifs will be a tool they (the US) will use to try and put us in a corner. I don’t see that as good for us.
I would hope that it'll be up to the Conservatives to handle the negotiations. If we get exemptions, it'll be easier with PP than our current bunch of clowns.
Why? What does PP bring to the table that gets us the exemptions? Is he going to give up supply management? He’s been pretty steadfast in his support of that. Will he increase defence spending? Not sure he actually will.

The big question is can he put together the same type of bi partisan team that the LPC did last time? If he can, I might be inclined to agree that the fact that he isn’t Trudeau might give him a bit of a better position but really it’s who he names to head the whole thing. What minister does he have that can open doors the way Freeland was able to? I am sure though that some players from last time like Rona Ambrose will be involved. And…it’s no secret that Global Affairs is going to get the hammer brought down on them when the CPC takes over. If they cut like they did during DRAP without any real thought because it’s low hanging fruit you could lose a lot of corporate knowledge from the last time going into négociations.

Alright here's my final piece on the election. I’m just taken aback by how much people were willing to trade, from a moral and behavioural perspective, a person who is a well establish grifter, philanderer, adulterer, convicted felon, sexual abuser, election subverter, etc, for maybe subtle improvements in how much things cost. It’s a pretty depressing trade that America just made. Trump isn’t going to be able to solve any of the problems that the people who voted for him think he’s going be able to solve. Inflation prices are here to stay, Trump is not going to be able to solve that problem.

I’m especially disappointed, however, because it is abundantly clear how bad a person Trump is, and many people who voted for Trump acknowledge that he’s terrible, but just because they think they might have cheaper eggs and gasoline, that’s all fine. And to be completely honest, I do understand where they are coming from, many of the people who vote that way live paycheck to paycheck, and when you’re worried about the price of rent and gasoline, that’s going to affect how you vote more than your neighbour’s rights.

But the part for me that is hardest to swallow is that those folks who have those concerns would have had better financial outcomes under Kamala Harris. If you really dig into the policies of Trump and Harris and see which candidate would be better for which income group, the fact that they voted for him in droves because he effectively lied to them, is really unfortunate for America. It means all you need is a good liar, and boom, you have power.

The inability of Americans to think critically and see through his and his supporter’s bullshit is the reason they got away with it. Just look at the graph below. Basically, if you were aware that the ship had been righted and was that the country was on the right track, you voted democrat. But, if you believed all the bullshit propaganda and misinformation being spread by Trump and MAGA, you voted Republican.

Like Fish, I'm actually pretty content right now, because I see myself in a win-win position. Either I'm wrong, and Trump doesn't transform America into an authoritarian Christian nationalist oligarchy, or I'm right, and I get to come on here and go "Ha! I fucking told you so!".

Blah blah blah...

The problem isn't that Trump won. It's that the other choice was worse. So say the voters.

Do better Dems.

Straight up TDS.

It scares me that you think that way.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I agree with that quote.
I’m not. I’ve used it before. And I believe it.

When some here lamented the last few elections here in Canada when the LPC won and accused the electorate of a bunch of stuff.

I don’t recall “do better CPC”. It was all about how wrong and stupid the electorate was. Some even accused voters of being traitors or working against Canada.

And before someone says that this is whataboutism, it isn’t. It’s about a democratic principle that should consistant regardless of who wins and regardless of your political stripe.
