While stats can sometimes be deceiving, the following graphs would tend to support the view that the surge is working. It also shows that AQ is the single largest killer of civilians in Iraq.

Any reduction in deaths is a good thing, but if I were making predictions from these charts I would guess that at least 70 more American soldiers and more than a thousand Iraqi civilians are going to be killed this month. Not WWII levels of loss or anything, but still a lot of grief.  I admit I never thought the Iraq occupation was an especially good idea, but I genuinely hope what is accomplished in end makes it worth that kind of personal sacrifice.

If the boys and girls keep up the good work and the governments of the many countries in Iraq keep at it, we can win.
People need to realise that this isnt a short war and that just because people die doesnt mean we should become isolationist and ignore the rest of the world.

Good graph, thanks for that, its good to see something thats postive.

People cannot compare this to WWII, there is no relevance. WWII was many nations and many fronts. The war most people compare Iraq is Vietnam. Even these numbers are not close, but remember Vietnam had the backing of the Soviet Union, so large supplies, and Vietnam has large amount on jungle, creating gorilla warfare to be most favored. The USSR backed side suffered over a million deaths, while the American side, with 58 thousand american suffered around 300 thousand.

My belief is while american deaths are down (and questionable for how long), it may be only due to the fact that sectarian violence has progressed to a point that more energy is put into killing other Iraqis rather then killing american.

I'm looking forward to the surge report this month.

The media in the US has been predicting the outcome of this
conflict from the start and have tried to crystal ball the report too.
They are often wrong. ;D

All I can say for sure is, I hope it works.
