I bring glad tidings of comfort and joy. I am told that the project is at the 98% approval stage, and that all is on track. Timelines were very very vague - something like the next couple of years. The individual talking to me mentioned that unlike with previous iterations of uniforms, this one will be rolled out to specific corps. He mentioned Lord Strathcona's Horse as well as the RCEME corps for the first. I'd be interested to see how that occurs. I was also told that the Service Cap is still a go - not sure why they weren't present (as you will soon see).
The fabric is an olive coloured twill, 60% Wool / 30% PTT (which is a synthetic) / 10% Polyester. It felt very markedly softer and had a mechnical stretch to it (IE not a spandex type). Allegedly it is significantly lighter as well, which I can believe. The uniforms looked excellent.
The main four tunic buttons are significantly bigger than those current, but I am sure that because the uniform really is so much nicer looking that people will accept the need to do a new purchase of accoutrements. Whilst both uniforms have the waist belts, officers have patch style pockets with buttons below the belt, and other ranks / NCMs have simple pockets with no buttons.
Pictures to follow once I reduce their resolution for the site.
