Trump administration 2024-2028

No. The reason why there is a war between Russia and Ukraine is because Russia invaded Ukraine. Full stop.

There could have been all sorts of economic or diplomatic actions between the two countries that would not have escalated to an invasion. Hell, the West allowed Russia to take over Donetsk and Luhansk in 2014.

In the same way that “Putin invading is NATO winning”?

Yes, we got Finland and Sweden to join, but most people would say that Russia not invading, and therefore those two countries not joining, is vastly preferable to the 2+ years of war now.

There is no reason for that war hey? Just because? Alrighty then.

Hey if Trumps policies force Canada to pull its collective head out of its ass, such as improving internal economics, then yes that is winning. Would you call bettering your position losing?

Oh there is a reason. In 2014 Russia annexed Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Russia hasn’t exactly been quiet about gaining back “its old territories” again.

That isn’t taken in isolation. But sure - let’s say that internal economics improves and for whatever reason it overrides the losses that happen through CAN-US trade (which would be interesting to see since we do so much of it now).

There’s still the collective North American security issue, the “will the US pull out of NATO” issue, and the 2nd and 3rd order effects that follow.

Besides, in that example, improved internal economics would come if Trump actually imposes the 25% tariffs, forcing the change from north-south to east-west flows. As we’ve said before here, tariffs impose costs on the consumer (in this case, the American consumer). No one on either side of the equation thanks the originator for imposing tariffs.

Were you able to offer valuable insights?
Well they did ask us a bunch of questions about our experiences in the CAF. So yes, I think I did.

President-elect Trump reaffirmed he plans to pardon rioters who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, saying he will begin to "look at everything" on his "first day" back in office.

The big picture: While Trump has vowed to pardon the rioters, whom he views as "hostages," he has provided little detail on how he plans to handle the hundreds of individuals who have been convicted in the years since the riot.

  • His promises have influenced the cases of Jan. 6 defendants, who have cited Trump's words in seeking to delay proceedings until after the president-elect is inaugurated.
Driving the news: "I'm going to be acting very quickly ... First day," Trump said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" with Kristen Welker, committing to the offer of clemency he's floated several times ahead of his White House return.

  • "They've been in there for years, and they're in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn't even be allowed to be open," he said of the imprisonment of his supporters who stormed the Capitol.
  • He said he's going to look at "individual cases."

Also, this gem. I had to look up where the US is “subsidizing” Canada $100 Billion and I can’t find it. Canada-US trade in 2023 was $923 Billion.

Lockheed braces for new administration as Musk targets F-35

F-35 prime contractor Lockheed Martin is preparing for defense-spending changes under the incoming Trump administration, the company’s top financial officer said Tuesday.

“I would expect, over time, that there will be different priorities in this administration,” Lockheed CFO Jay Malave said at the UBS Global Industrials & Transportation Conference. “It typically happens, [that] the administration prioritizes things that maybe the prior one didn't. I think the good thing about Lockheed Martin is that we're accustomed to that. We know how to operate in that environment and how to adjust quickly.”

Elon Musk, a key adviser of President-elect Donald Trump and co-leader of an effort to cut government waste, tore into Lockheed’s F-35 program last week, calling the jet obsolete in the age of drones. Musk also tweeted a video of Chinese drones, saying “Meanwhile, some idiots are still building manned fighter jets like the F-35.”

I feel dirty defending fighter pilots, but I wouldn’t say that the F-35 is obsolete yet. The Israelis (who are well known for also using UAS) seem to be using them to good effect.

If manned fighters are obsolete, what will intercept highjacked airlines or escort AF1 in a hostile situation?

I don’t know if hiring “the lawyer who lost my defamation and sexual assault case against E. Jean Carroll” would be my first pick, but here we are.
What? She extremely well qualified, just look at her resume of litigation success...

Ok, putting sarcasm aside, she is the daughter of successful Iraqi immigrants who came to America and made the best life possible for their children, and they obviously instilled hard work and determination to succeed Ms. Habba.

With the right support, she could succeed if the person she's advising can be tamed.

Also: a new "parking lot management company" from New Jersey has been assigned to the White House.

Weird. He could hire some of the best counsel around and he goes with her? Her actual legal background and record is pretty bad. Honestly Americans should be a bit concerned that their president will receive legal advice from a lawyer of that caliber.

“Loyalty over competency” has been the theme for his appointment picks.

You wait...

... my best guess is that one of his first projects will be to look at all the 'private' air forces in the DoD and amalgamate, and then automate, them.

You know, like Canada kind of did once upon a time sans automation ;)
