WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Monday alerted America's farmers to coming U.S. tariffs on "external product," telling them to get ready to sell their goods domestically.
"To the Great Farmers of the United States: Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States. Tariffs will go on external product on April 2nd. Have fun!" Trump wrote on his private social media platform amid escalating trade tensions.
I wasn't joking when I said a 30% spike in food prices.
I'm no expert, but would this not do the very opposite of lowering grocery prices? Especially when it comes to (specifically) most fruit and vegetables? I hope everyone down south really likes grains.
It won’t make anything cheaper, certainly. Tariffs apply to imports and will be borne in part by exporters eating their own profit margin to retain sales, but largely by importers paying more to purchase goods. That, of course, will end up at least partly/mostly passed on to customers. If Americans are importing goods, it’s because it’s cheaper to import than to produce domestically. So yeah- inflationary.

I wasn’t really referring to any political consequence. Just what the cost of housing there will look like with this given the mount of rebuilding they have to do.California votes blue.
My point is that making a state that didn't vote for Trump pay more is a feature, not a bug.I wasn’t really referring to any political consequence. Just what the cost of housing there will look like with this given the mount of rebuilding they have to do.
Maybe might push that whole Calexit thing to a new level lolMy point is that making a state that didn't vote for Trump pay more is a feature, not a bug.
