The problem is, the more rough the CP detail is, the more they radicalize people against all politicians and "elites".
And what's worse than the lack of class- the lack of any semblance of panache or wit.

A former OPP boss did a little time in security branch on the Lt. Gov. detail during Pauline McGibbon's tenure. He said it was like going shopping with your grandmother, every day.
And likely won't. In spite of their myths, the US didn't get rid of royalty - they just replaced it with their own. Here, once you are out of power you are simply a former politician unless their is some credible threat or intelligence that would warrant protection.

Fairly strong judgmental words, n’est-ce pas? Maybe she has class, or a class, lower-class? Maybe she had a family business, or herself previously middle-class, career or QOL destroyed by deliberate actions by the PM and doesn’t care if people judge her for telling off the person she feels has so negatively impacted her life. Who knows? I won’t judge her, since she wasn’t showing off a F*CK TRUDEAU flag or anything like that…just exercising her Charter Right to express herself.

Other than after some immediate post-Depot penance, it would seem that there can be de facto long-term service in Protective Operations.
I never did it full-time but was on our 'spare board' when the OPP security branch needed extra bodies. Mostly driver/motorcade but the occasional bodyguard when someone was guest of the province (usually another premier) and site security. You are right that there is no midnights, no radio calls and regular overtime (you're on so long as your principal is on) but it is the epitome of an 'hurry up and wait' or 'hours of boredom interrupted by moments of excitement' type of assignment.
I think it will be Trudeau. I see no sign of him leaving on his own accord. Even if caucus does vote him off the island, I see him saying “That’s nice” and continuing on as normal.
