The War in Ukraine

They are not dead unless they have a body, if they don't bother collecting bodies, your Company Commander can still collect your wages and rations. The State does not have to pay out any death benefits. So not much incentive to crack down on the lower level coverups.

Anyone who thinks that the fall of Ukraine wouldn’t effect Trump like Afghanistan effected Biden is dreaming in Technicolor. And Putin doesn’t want a deal.

The truest believers will just say "time to spend the money at home & let Europe do Europe."

Meanwhile ...

Trump makes deals. He's a businessman. Thats what he does. He's running the U.S. like a business, right?

One problem: Ukraine isn't his to barter with Putin.

He doesn't have to face the repercussions if Russia reneges on the deal and continues to attack Ukraine. Additionally, his posturing about using military and economy force to annex other countries (rhetoric or not) sends a loud message across the world that the Great Game is back on in full force.

You'll see China make a move for Taiwan. You'll see Pakistan and India finally settle scores in Kashmir. Iran will have nothing left to lose in the Middle East. It won't end.

In "The Art of the Deal", he speaks heavily about leverage being the one thing you never negotiate without. In Ukraine, he has no leverage that is discernable to negotiate a peace; only the ability to give concessions to try and appease Putin.

I think you misread DJT in some of this.

He has his ideas of what peace should look like, and neither Ukraine nor Russia will probably like it. However I think Ukraine understands Trump much better than Putin does. Ukraine has shown PE Trump that they are willing to deal, while Putin has not and has mocked Trump. It costs Trump nothing if he needs to dump a lot of equipment and munitions to Ukraine if Putin doesn’t play ball, he is the GOP currently and no one of the MAGA anti-Ukraine folks in the House would dare to cross him if he suddenly said he wants to send 120B in Military Aid to Ukraine.
He’s armed Ukraine before, because he knows what the loss of Ukraine would do to Europe and the world at large.

The question to me is more is Putin willing to pull his neck in to accept the current lines, or will he push and let Trump use it as his golden hour moment to show his and American supremacy?

Remember Trump told the House to eventually support the Bipartisan Aid bill to Ukraine and had armed them before when he was in office. The only reason Trump was anti-Ukraine for the last 4 years was Biden was supporting them. (And was no doubt miffed about the whole phone call issue).

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms why we went exclusively F35 instead of Grippen E/F or a blend of the two?

Dome
But why in the Ukraine War thread ?
Some C's are on their way and long-term that is what they have said they want as their primary fighter/attack aircraft - so I started reading up on them and foud the video.

Go ask the Iranians about the F35's and if they are effective.
They are in some roles, not others, and not as the sole aircraft. Ukraine does not need many to satisfy any future NATO interoperability requirements and is not in the power projection club needing a deep penetration capability. Their future wars are all going to be primarily above them or within several hundred miles of their borders. The short/rough field and easy to operate with recent/poorly trained ground crews is a better operational fit than a maintenance and tech heavy runway queen. I doubt Ukraine will keep more than a squadron of F16 when it comes time to buy what they want. And Gripen is better than Mirage or Viper for their needs. Not purely my opinion, ask Dr. Justin Bronk.

So, you answered your own question. Strategic context matters when choosing a fighter aircraft.
