Sender and receiver?

No, you just said that it was ridiculous considering that they charge the sender.

So I said to myself, "Self, ( I knew it was me 'cause I recognized the voice)...".

;D

I guess that extra twenty dollars a month unlimited texting paid off :). I wonder how fast that plan option is going to disappear  :crybaby:

What's interesting is I used to get Text Message Spam when I had a Telus Account.  Now with Rogers I don't get any.

I was actually curious whether in their User Agreement if they get consent to give out cell numbers to marketing partners (which they make money on) and then get you on the other side to pay for the incoming messages too.

Hopefully not as that would be pretty dirty if they did....

Matthew.  ???

The rates for incoming/outgoing texts have always been insane.  Which is why I have always had unlimited text messaging, even though I don't text a lot.  But for the odd days that I do, its worth it.  My sister on the other hand, blows my mind, she sends at least 100 texts a day.  Oh well, she's 14, I get it.

Cheers, Kyle

How is it that Telus does not have the bandwidth to support millions of Canadian's text messaging without charging them when Rogers can sell a 6 gigabyte plan for the apple iphone for only $30? Honestly...

I deal with Rogers... If you think for one instant that the $30/month fee for 6GB data is all you are paying, you are mistaken. I thought I was on a $20/month basic "Government" plan. My bill is yet to be less the $50... Once you add in all the fees that are NOT advertised, then you get the real picture.

I think that Rogers is the most honest of them all... But to be blunt, if I had a choice, I would drop them in a heart beat, because, IMHO, I believe their rates to be far excessive for the value and customer care they are giving me. FAR EXCESSIVE.

I am being polite here, if you want my views on Telus or Bell, best ask in PM, because I can not be polite about them.

From CTV.ca

At least federal Industry Minister Jim Prentice is taking action and asking for answers  from the Telecos. Hopefully they will rethink charging for incoming text messages.  ::)

On the news, the representative of one cie said that if they were contact about a spam text, they would reimbourse.
How many people will pass a few hours online with theirs customers services to get their 0,15$ back ?

I've had Telus for 5 years now ( plus 3 years with them at an earlier time) and never have received any "spam" text messages.........none

Yes with bell that is if you choose the early clock option that costs like $7 or so I think.  I was with bell when I was in Ontario and if you didn't take the early clock your "evenings" started at 9.  I am with Telus now and have the early clock and my "evenings" start at 5pm.  Which is beneficial because I am in BC and my family is out in NS so that works out well for me with the time change.

If this stays the status quo from here on in, two things may happen. Bell & Telus will either loose a large number of their subscribers or many who don't have one, will opt for a monthly plan, especially families with teenagers. My bet will be that many will play right into the bell and telus trap by signing a 2 or 3 year contract now instead of waiting and seeing what the new competition will be offering them next year.

These large companies don't like competition and to me this is just a scare tactic to lour people into signing a contract and hitching them up for another 2-3 years.

My contract with rogers ends next June, and i'll be waiting to see what the new kids on the block will be offering me.

Canadian wireless is almost a cartel... My contract with Rogers still has 14 months on it. I'm wondering whether to 'pause' my contract for tour, or just let it run with zero useage and hope I can get a better deal six months sooner than I would. I think (and hope) that between the current iPhone blowup and the recent spectrum auction, the wireless market may be soon entering a significant shift to the customers' benefit.

If nothing else, you could always text the wireless companies, and complain about the new charges...... ;D

Rogers loves texting me.  When I...

Miss a call.
Drop a call.
Get a voicemail.
Call 411.

Rogers, always there.  ;D

I remember getting the NDP's e-mail before I even heard about this on CBC.  They want you to sign a petition.  http://www.ndp.ca/page/6577  Funny thing,  they have a spot for your cell number.... gee mom how do spamers get my number?

Oh they also started a face book group.  http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=42606695760  This is alot like their failed anti-bank fees thingies http://www.ndp.ca/page/4796
