Selection date: TBD?

It seems every time I complete part of this recruitment process, I'm glued to my computer screen trying to find out answers from this forum.
Alas, this one seems a bit perplexing to me and I wonder if anyone has any incite.

It's no secret what a selection date for a trade is, I know that, but I'm concerned what it means EXACTLY when a trade has 'To be decided' stamped under the selection date.
I had found out that, Dental Technician NCM-SEP, had a selection date for today but Dental Technician Semi-skilled (what I am) was stamped with TBD. I was a little dissapointed in more ways than one.
Can anyone shed any light on to what that means. Does it mean that they take in recruits as they come (not a very popular trade. 10 spots open for the FY and when I had applied in November, there was 6 left)? Or is it something that literally isn't decided yet as to when they will be offering jobs to semi-skilled dental techs. Not sure of any other trades that don't have a concrete selection date or how that might work... the career counselor that had interviwed me said that he couldn't find a selection date for my trade...

Do you think the board could be making decisions for both SEP and Semi-skilled the same day? Cause if so, I know who I'm calling tomorrow...

It's very hard to say at this point, but I have some ideas.

For one thing, the fiscal year is just about to be over.  A lot of members are trying to burn off their remaining leave, and so the people who would normally sit on the boards might not be available until we're into the new fiscal year.  Also, nobody is completely sure what their budgets are going to look like, and so they may be holding off on making decisions until they're sure they can afford to train you etc.  Units have ideas of course, but that's no guarantee.

Also, the whole recruiting process is getting an overhaul.  There's a new way to calculate your military potential score, and as such, boards might choose to wait for changes in the system to come into effect on April 1st before making more decisions.

I know for instance that there was a recent selection board for a number of Air Force trades, but, to the best of everybody's knowledge, no new date has yet been scheduled.

So, in all likelihood, TBD means exactly that.  To be determined.  Probably, a date will be set, but for any number of possible reasons, some of which are detailed above, they haven't done that yet.

except that SEP would cost them more money than it would to call somebody who's already trained ;)
But everything else makes a lot of sense.
Thanks :D

The process for hiring NCM Sep or semi skilled are not connected.  If they have 10 spots for NCm SEP, than the money for training is authorized and there is no sell to be made about being semi skilled.

I'm not sure in this case, but sometimes TBD is in reference to Each individual person.  Each semi skilled person requires different courses or portions of courses to get you a full military qualification.  So if they will adjust the selection date based on your individual path required to train you.

That's what I was leaning more towards; only because some people get calls within 72 hours of being merit listed and I always wondered why. The timing can't be that good for all of them in terms of selection dates...

While it might seem like a mean thing, in my personal experience, I have spoken with applicants I knew I would be giving a job offer to in 12-72 hours from now and not indicated that to them.  The reason for this is because just before the job offer there is one last final review for any issues.  To indicate a job offer and have to take that back because 12 hours later I realized your Medical was expired is harsh, so until we are calling you, we keep it all quiet.

I have a question in regards to 'Selection Dates' - I know it doesn't have to do with the first inquiry i.e. first post...but, I hope someone maybe knows or has an idea about it.

I know there was an officer selection date on February 26th and that many have already received offers to start BMOQ on April 29th. Does anyone know if there will be another selection date in April or May??

Some people have told me there may be one in May...but does anyone know details or more concrete information???

Thanks  :)

Nothing currently scheduled.  The last round of selections were for ROTP applicants.
