Hey all,

I have several general questions that may seem stupid to some, but then again, I am coming out of the P.Res as an infantryman.

Background: I am currently a Cpl, and have been in for about 5.5 Years.  As far as I know (this is what the recruiters have lead me to believe, so I take it with a grain of salt) I will be able to keep my current pay grade in most instances. I have completed BMQ, SQ, DP1 + DP2 Infantry. (Not getting into the PLQ mods I have completed cause they're getting all messed around as it is and they are irrelevant to my questions)

What I am aware of: I will need to complete NETP and then whatever Trade qual as well as OJT. I am aware of this.

I'd really like any information on the NETP as far as what it runs like and what a typical day looks like, as well as the frequency these courses run.

I'd also very much appreciate logistic information: Where and how should I get my uniforms changed over? Will I be expected to turn in most of my land pattern uniforms or will I keep them? What kit will I be expected to have on NETP (I know joining instructions vary by course, but I have a lot of kit deficiencies from things being absolutely destroyed or stolen on Brigade level exercises) and if I do not have something, will I be expected to get it sorted out at my home unit before I head out to either coast?

I ask these because the logistic support of (at least) my brigade is entirely changing this year, things are unorganized and they are closing many ASU's.

I just don't want to be "that guy" from day one of NETP as I have never been "that guy" before and I want to be sharp to earn credibility despite my past in the Infantry, and the reserve infantry at that.

Lastly, I am interested in Naval Boarding Party, and it seems (based on info floating around) that candidates are chosen based on their proven aptitude. Could someone confirm/deny this? If It is true, just another reason to have these issues under wraps before it's too late.

Thanks

Generally, for hard sea trades, the ideal is to have you do NETP first, followed by QL3. However, with Log I'm not sure; it's entirely possible you'll go to CFSAL in Borden first. The thing is, even though you're putting on a Navy uniform, you're becoming a purple trade and you could wind up going back to the field, or to an AF unit or whatever and if that's the case, there'd be no rush to get you onto NETP.

NETP itself runs about four weeks (ish) last time I checked, and once you're posted to a ship, there is an OJT component done onboard. If you have DWAN access, here's a link to the Seamanship Division of Fleet School in Esquimalt, with info on NETP and also on NBP: http://esquimalt.mil.ca/cffs/SeaDiv/index.htm

As far as kit goes, since you're a purple trade, you may well be directed to keep your CADPAT kit, though not necessarily everything (i.e. helmet).

Essentially right Jack Tar.  As a loggie you will be sent on trades level trg then environmental trg as required by your posting.  For example if you are posted to HFX or ESQ you will normally be loaded fairly quickly on an NETP course the posted to a ship shortly after its completion.  This is from my experience as a Navy Sup Tech in HFX.

Your green kit is normally returned to the CFSS and you can draw a. New set should you need it.  It is not uncommon though for some purple trades to have a few sets of operational clothing from different environments.
