Good day,
Here is my situation:
I have put in an application to become a Musician in the Reg Force. Music is my passion and I feel that I can contribute more as a musician than I ever did as a technician (AVS Tech). The problem is, I don't possess a degree in music. There's a chance that I won't be accepted. I was an AVS Tech Cpl (served 2009-2014) posted to CFB Greenwood and I was part of the 14 Wing Brass and Reed Band. I didn't sign another contract after completing my I.E. and moved back to my Ottawa, my hometown.
I feel that not possessing a post-secondary education will hold me back from doing a lot of things in my life and I want to change that.
Question: Is there a particular Reserve trade that would provide me with enough work hours so that I can pursue a post-secondary education and pay my bills at the same time? I honestly can't see myself working for anyone or anything other than the CF. Waiting tables just isn't for me. It is my understanding that most reservists will parade one night per week and one weekend per month. Unfortunately, I don't think that this would cover my monthly expenses.
As far as I am aware, one cannot be in the Reg Force and attend University or College unless accepted into ROTP. Getting into RMC is a competitive process and I don't exactly have the time to put my life on hold and wait until May to find out I was accepted or not. Would it be best to apply as a RESO candidate? I may have an opportunity to do so.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
