Hello,

I am 17 years old and want to join the CAF as a construction technician. I understand that you need QL5 to get Red Seal certified for a trade, which I read is Cpl or MCpl. I've heard it will take a few years to go from signing your contract to getting your QL5 and getting red seal certified. My question is, how long exactly?

Or, in other words, the shortest length of a CAF contract is 3 years, is it possible to get your QL5 (and by extension a Red Seal) within that timeframe?

Thanks.

Normally it takes 4 years to get from untrained recruit on day 1 of BMQ to Cpl. The shortest contract length is for Infanteers. Construction Techs likely have longer contracts than infanteers, potentially 5 years. The contract length is non-negotiable. Typically regardless of the trade, most people seem to wait 36-48 months from their DP1/QL3 to get loaded on their QL5.
