PRes recruiting offices open EVERY Wednesday evening?

The reason I am asking is that I live 1.5 hours away, and have not been successful in contacting anyone at the units here in Alberta that I am interested in.  It's a three hour round trip, just to find out that no one will be there.  I'm sure they are not in the offices as much right not during the summer....heck, they might even be off at CFB Wainwright right now.

Are they required to be open for recruiting EVERY Wednesday of the year, or is it rolling the dice to check and see?

Thanks.

Call the unit. Get the name and contact information for their Recruiter. Ensure that everyone you talk to knows that you will need to make a 3-hour round trip and that you want to make sure someone will be there to meet you. Arrange the meeting personally with the Recruiter you will be meeting to ensure they will be present.

It might be useful for you to understand that a reserve unit normally trains (i.e. "is open") one night a week (not necessarily Wednesday).  Often there will be a second night of the week when a smaller number of personnel are present, called an administration night.  The unit's recruiter might be in those nights, or might not.  There is also often a small day staff which, again, may or may not include the recruiter.  All of this is likely to be reduced somewhat in the summer.

The evenings are likely to be busy for all concerned so you may find it hard to get a quick response when you contact the unit.  I second the advice above -- you definitely should speak directly to someone before taking the chance on a trip that long.

I ran into the same problem with the my recruiting centre. It was too far away to drive to and the phone lines were always busy or unanswered. I found that leaving a message with my name, number, and a quick reason for calling allowed them to respond to my call when they had enough time to answer all my questions. It may mean you have to wait a couple hours/days for a call, but they will get back to you as soon as they have time.

The Army Reserve Units do parade on Wednesday nights in Alberta.  I would expect to get a hold of people in September.  The summer is a bad time to try to get a hold of anyone.  Which units are you thinking of, since I work at the Brigade HQ in Alberta.

I was thinking of the KOCR, but now I'm leaning towards the SALH in Edmonton.  Funny thing is that Google Maps states that I am 169km away from EACH of them.

I did get the name of a WO in Edmonton, and left a message, so perhaps I'll get a call back.  However, that was from a Garrison operator, so no clue as to whether that was even the correct person or not.  ;)
