Shades of a shut down biometrics ID card thread in the works... ^-^
I personally have no issue with the US thinking that we are a sieve for terrorism flowing across the border. Our border security sucks. The guys on the actual crossing points are gripped, but have their own issues. Forget about the oh-so-precious "longest undefended (read: insecure) border" crap. The Americans are likely ramping up the urgency because they know bloody well that our country still hasn't quite gotten it's priorities in line and it will take some huge prodding to get people thinking about our border safety.
Immigration is a donkey show too. That needs some serious overhauling as well.
+1 on what Bruce said about passports. I would love to see stats on the time frame of when certain people are issued a passport to when they "lose" it (for around $500 each).
