Hey guys.. alright, well I'm currently in grade 12, I've already done my tests and everything and passed them all, now I'm waiting for the results on the background check. Next year, well by next year I will hopefully already have my high school diploma, and I intend to join the army (Queen's Own Rifles) full time. All my friends are going off to universities and colleges, and they encourage me to go to a university and college also, so I could find a high paying job after... I guess this is all it comes down to, the salary. I didn't care much about money before, I just wanted to be a soldier, and was pretty sure that the army is the best choice for me. But now I really started looking into my future... This might be a pretty lame question, but I really need some help here.. After all, this is my career we're talking about. Well I understand that the average salary of an average private, is around 24000 a year (correct me if im wrong), and the salary obviously increases as you move up ranks. I searched this site, and didn't find anything useful, so I was just wondering does everyone, at one point or another get promoted? And what is the maximum amount of time one has to serve in the army to get promoted? I know it depends on many things, but I would like to know an estimate amount for an average infantry soldier. I mean, I dont want to be in the army for 30 years and still be a private. :crybaby: ...Thanks In Advance...

Well, according to your profile your already a Private in the QOR, you might want to change that. Also, to work full time with the QOR you'd need to get a Class B contract, which would be hard to get. If you want full time army, join the Reg Force.

For promotions, it depends on how much time in you have, and if you have the qualifications/courses for the rank.

To be a Cpl in the Reserve, you need a minimum of 2 years in, and are QL3(or in your case BIQ) qualifed. Reg Force, you need to be QL3 qualifed, and are on your second basic engagement.

To become a MCpl your need your JLC/PLQ course.

The Queens Own Rifles is a reserve regiment, the only way you can work "full time" in our regiment is with a class B contract, as stated above. Usually you won't get a class B contract unless you have some kind of specialty, the people in class B positions are the recruiters, clerks, and some others that I can't think of right now, and usually you need some time in unit before you can get straight to class B employment.

If you want to go full time, and make some money, join the regular force.

If you choose to go Reg Force you may find my situation interesting.

I have a high school education and joined the military as an NCM. I just completed my 3rd year in and I am now on my Indefinite Engagement. Luckily, I managed to get advance promoted to Corporal in a Spec 1 trade and just made the spec pay cut-off. As a result, I now make approximately $50,000 a year which I think is pretty decent for someone 3 years out of high school.

Tribal Jedi, what trade are you in? Just out of curiosity.

He's Comm Research Mountain. Just out of curiosity, how much is the living allowance's in Ottawa Tribal?

Do we need any higher rank NCM or Officer to get the promotion? Or just apply those courses by yourself.

The promotion paperwork is usually started by your section or platoon commander.  The criteria for promotion includes a recommendation by your leadership.  The "promotion" from Pte (R) to Pte trained is pretty much a slam dunk.

It's approx $130 or $101 if you live with any other military members.

I believe the amount is so low because they include Gatineau in the region which has far lower living costs than Ottawa.

Oh well, that's life.
