Moving from Toronto to Nova Scotia, Reserve and Reg Force

Okay so I have a couple questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.

So here's the deal: I'm 19, and currently enrolled in the Reserves. I went through my school's co-op program to get in, and I've been in for about three weeks and I love it. By June I will have completed my BMQ, and SQ. I'm at Moss Park Armoury, 8 AM TO 5 PM, Tuesday to Friday.

Anyway, when I'm done I'm going away all summer to Meaford, Ontario to train and complete my DP-1.

So question one: I want to transfer to Regular Force, how would I go about doing that?

The regiment I am currently in is 7th Toronto Regiment, RCA.

Question two: I want to move from Toronto to Nova Scotia; more specifically New Glasgow.

So I'm just wondering how I would go about doing that, I know I couldn't do it now but would I be able to after the summer? I still want to stay in the Canadian Forces, so what would the process be for that?

Thank you  :camo:

Well, for starters, there's plenty of info in this sub-forum about component transfers:  Occupational and Component Transfers

If you want to move, doing it while in the Reserves might be possible.  There may be a Reserve unit near New Glasgow and if they have a position for you, I would think a transfer is doable.  However, if you go Reg F, you probably wouldn't be posted there, so the move might be a waste of time and money, depending on your reasons for wanting to move.

Just for information purposes, and if you wanted to stay reserve Artillery, the closest unit is in Halifax. They have Infantry in New Glasgow.

Thank you, I'm guessing it'll be harder to move once I join Reg Force, so I plan to stay in the Reserves, and then transfer to Reg Force once I'm out there.

I plan on staying in Artillery, and I've looked up Regiments in Nova Scotia.
1st (Halifax-Dartmouth) Field Artillery Regiment, in Halifax would be the one that I would be transferring to if possible.

Just wondering what is the Infantry unit near New Glasgow?, I couldn't seem to find it.

Also, how would I go about transferring there, what are the steps?

Thanks again  :camo:

Try going through your present unit to see if there is a position in the unit you want to transfer to.

Again, with the move, you can move while in the Res F, however, keep in mind that, depending on your trade, there's almost no chance you will be able to stay in New Glasgow once you go Reg F.

Once you join the Regular Force, the Army tells you what province you're going to be living in.  If your goal is to stay in Nova Scotia, you may need to rethink transferring to the Reg F.

1st Nova Scota Highlanders are in New Glasgow.

You will not be able to stay in Nova Scotia if you go reg force artilleryman as there are hardly any positions there save for RSS staff at 1 FD in Halifax.  The closest you could hope for is Gagetown with W Battery which is about a 4 hour drive away from Halifax.

If you want to go reg force there is no point in moving to Nova Scotia as you will just get moved again as soon as your component transfer goes through.

As for starting the process.  There is an online form that you fill out and submit directly to Ottawa, that gets the process going.  If you stay artillery it will be pretty simple,  Just a matter of weather they have CT positions or not.  Now is a really good time to submit that online form as 1 April is just around the corner.  If there are going to be positions, its now that they will come out.  My personal guess is that there wont be alot of positions, and they will get scooped up very fast.

Thank you everyone, you helped me out alot.
I plan on staying Artillery Reserve Force for a bit, at least until I move out there for sure. Or if I even move out there at all.

I have time to think about this all, right now I'm just going to focus on getting my training done.

Thanks again  :camo:
