Ontario's Highway 400 was closed for several hours Monday night after a man surrounded himself with propane tanks and threatened to blow himself up.
After hours of negotiation with the York Region Emergency Response Unit, the standoff came to an end without incident.
Police rushed to the scene north of Toronto at around 9:30 p.m. and quickly closed off a large section of the highway from Aurora Road to King Sideroad.
Traffic was backed up as far as major Mackenzie Drive. Some side roads were also shut down as a precaution.
Police say the man pulled over on the southbound lanes of the highway with a number of propane tanks in his car that were bound together with duct tape. He allegedly threatened to detonate the bomb when the next tanker truck passed by.
It was hours before the man surrendered to authorities. Police were able to reopen the highway by 2 a.m.
Good thing this turned out for the better.
