Apologies if this isn't the correct place to post this. I did a search on "Living in the Shacks" and living and didn't see what I needed.

I was speaking to my recruiter (man, i've been so lucky to get a patient and informative guy) and we were speaking about relocation, living on ships, living on base during training etc... and he brought up living in "The Shacks" if I wanted to save money.

Idiot that I am... I was happy to be getting all this great information, I forgot to ask: What the hell are "The Shacks"?  All I can picture is an alluminum half-cylinder with a front door housing 30 of my closest buddies like in "Heartbreak Ridge"  (exellent movie by the way)

though, honestly, if this is the worst I have to worry about, I think i'm doing ok. I was just curious as to what life after training would be like.

Sorry again if this is in the wrong place.

"Shacks" are barracks.  They might be single room, double room, four to a room, shared bath, common room, etc or any combination of those.  Basically, they are accommodations for single military pers on base.

BTW, the search function is kaput right now.  ;)

Which was a knock-off of the Nissen Hut http://www.search.com/reference/Nissen_hut, designed by Peter Nissen, a Canadian.

You said living on ship...are you headed to Esquimalt or Halifax?  I am sure some people can give you info on the Junior Ranks SQs (Single Quarters) at each location, such as A Block at CFB Stadacona in Halifax, for example...

Or Warrior Block like yourself..  ;D

I've been out of there for...over a year now and am currently *enjoying life* in the shacks in YWG.

But WB isn't a bad place at all.  I'd not live-in now though with the mandatory linking of R & Q on the Wings, at least not in Halifax...unless PLD took a sudden nose dive atleast.

I know I'll be heading to B.C. for training... but as for whether or not I'll stay there... I've been told I have a choice and I've also been told I have a choice of going where I'm told.

I'm happy with either.

I'm in... I don't give a damn about anything else. All I gotta do now is stay in. :)

which surprisingly enough is very hard for some people.  Avoid the drugs, control the alcohol and as my mother said - mind your p's and q's.
