Living in shacks as a 30+ y/o

Hello everyone! It's been a hot minute since I've posted on here, I've made it through basic easily because I'm in shape lol and have been living in the shacks for 6 months now at CFB kingston and my god what a fucking nightmare it has been for me as a 33 year old whos lived 32 years of normal life outside the shacks! Between phantom shitters, people pissing in garbage cans, shitting on toilet seats, running around all night high and drunk like school girls with their first crush, or being on my 9th or 10th roommate whom all have either snored like chainsaws or screamed in their sleep! "NOOOO!" OR "YES MCPL!!!" it's my own personal nightmare that none of the recruiters tell you about. Living out is an option yes, but depending on if you get pushed backed for course dates, are tasked out, or want a VOT all change the time range you'll be suffering these nightmarish scenarios.

For you lifers in the caf how the fuck did you ever survive this shit? Because it's not fucking normal being surrounded by retards everyday 247.

Apparently the people who run accommodations that "all of this is a part of the CFSCE exerperience" and that I'll look back on this time with fondess and it's a right of passage. Jesus christ if living in a asbestos, led riddled, shit smeared building is a part of the experience what in gods name are we doing here? If your 17 or 18 years old and have no concept of what real life is outside of your parents house yeah sure I can see this weed filled shit smeard dream being palatable but my god as a grown man looking at this from the outside you'd think were running a mental institution.

Long story short, how did you all survive this shit and being on BTL eternally

Get used to it

Be comfortable in an uncomfortable situation

Embrace the suck.
How long should I embrace the suck? For years? I want to smother every roommate I get at this point between snoring which only allows me to get 3 hours a night, these kids playing video games all hours of the night or slapping their keyboards talking to their nerd friends on discord all night. Do I just stand at attention in my bed going "I'm In the military I'm hard as fuck" for the rest of the time I'm there? I'm open to suggestions lol

CJP, time heals all…many of us scrubbed it from our brain housing groups after we left the training list… 😉
That's what I'm hoping for the saying "it gets better" has been a constant since my first day at basic. But I'm 6 months in the shacks and once my year in comes up in the new year I'm going to VOT so that'll catch me in the training systems even longer I'd imagine.

How far are you willing to go for a good night's sleep? How flexible are your morals and ethics?
I mean I've seen some guys threaten there roommates for the same thing I mentioned above and they got charged but they got their own room 🤔 I don't think I'm willing to go that far and have a permanent shit stain on my employment record lol

Mention it to your course staff. They are supposed to care.

Suppose if you have spare cash you could rent a bachelor pad in Kingston somewhere, just make sure you're in on time for inspections and school...or hook up with a long term significant other/FWB, again making sure you're back in time for inspections/school/work/whatever...
When I lived in there, I was Base Staff, so on other side in B77, had allegedly more mature mod mates, but the dude in the room over me had a predilection for bringing home screamers, the rubber heads under me would have parties I wasn't cleared to attend at weird hours (not as bad as the lineman, but got loud), etc...I spent a lot of nights away at my girlfriend's, just had to get up pretty early to get home and work ready as we had an earlier start when I worked at RMC. After awhile, I kept a uniform at her place.

They don't. I've already tried, they said " it's a part of the experience"
I had someone show up at the MIR one time saying they needed a chit to get a room with non-smokers (was an issue in those days) - I wrote back a chit to the CFSCE SOR with words to the effect "This is an admin issue not medical - do your job"...got me dragged into my WO's office. They apparently still don't like doing the simple thing and moving folks...

I’m sorry that is your experience to date. It shouldn’t be. If a VOT gets you into a group that acts more appropriately ( perhaps AVSTech or something) then I wish you the best.

As SKT said, it isn’t/shouldnt be part of the experience. I was far enough from the Jimmy School world when I was at Kingston that I’m not sure how one would go about getting things sorted if the CFSCE staff themselves don’t GAF, other than a go around them to the School Adjt or CWO thing, which I don’t know how that would work out…someone should GAF… 😔

I was in Kingston for 7 years - Ii remember having to spend a week of afternoons going through sick parade records looking for people that came in from CFSCE for stress related things generated by mentally challenged leadership in 2 particular Sqn's there...seems things haven't changed much since I left in 2002.

Um, why didn't anyone tell me this before? How do I get rid of them?

No hazmat barrels under the hut? They are providing luxury these days. Probably have hot showers too.

Think of it this way and it may help. All the crap is motivation to ensure you pass your training so you can get out of that system and into actually working in your trade.

You have my sympathy although my case wasn't as bad. I was 23 with a bunch of teens from high school that was still use to mommy taking care of them. Kids on their own for the first time are a pain.

then again there is always soap in a pillow case....... only kidding!! Maybe...kinda....is that a plane I see?

No wonder retention is low because who in their right mind would live like this, the only thing I can see if that these kids come right from their parents place and this is their "College Experience", I've gone to a MO actually and he told me "not being able to sleep around others is grounds to be released from the CAF"

Makes sense I guess if you put it that way because it's no way to live. And If living in a building that's falling apart and riddled with asbestos is luxury then I must of been lied to my whole life lol
