I have heard a lot of people talking about how the US is desperate for troops and they are willing to pay large signing bonuses ($60,000) and advanced promotions (Seargent) to fully trades qualified Canadian Soldiers.  Is there any truth to these rumors and if so where could I find out more information.  Thanx in advance.

Dave

doh.  sorry, I don't know how to move it but I will post it in the right place.

The only way  u can join  is if you have a Green Card, and that seems to be a major problem for most people these days.. Native Canadians can join though with no problems because of a Treaty...

I Believe so, a call to the US INS would quickly answer that for you.

Good luck

Yes, I believe so. Any Native canadian can join any branch of the US forces. Psst join the Marines  ;D

By native canadian do you mean cree and inuit? or do you mean a Canadian born in Canada? And what is the US INS? Also do the americans even consider that Metis are part of the first nations community since we have only gotten our rights in Canada (and still waiting) not too long ago? sorry all the questions, I'm just curious about this since I have never heard this before.

By native  Canadian I mean  innuit, metis etc...

Try to contact PFC Spence he can tell you how he did it. You can always go down to a recruiter and see what he can do for you. You will probably have to prove that you are a Native Canadian to the social secuirity administration and then you will  get your SS# and then you can join .... I believe thats what PFC Spence has done...

I always though you had to be American citezen to join. Where did you here this from.

You don't need to be a citizen, I know this much, you just need a working permit. Thats at least what a marine recruiter told me.

Any Native who holds a status card can cross and join the American Military, IIRC. INS is the Immigration and Naturalization Service for the US, they have the policies on who can enter into the States and work and can answer your questions for you.

okay, thanks for the info! I just emailed INS with a couple of questions.

I do believe that registered Native Aboriginals do have the ability to join the US military even if they're Canadian citizens.  However I'm not up to speed on what the exact regulations are.  If you are a registered Native Aboriginal, you should contact the military recruiting office of whatever branch you're looking to join for information.

I'm registered with the Metis Nation and I have my Metis card and all that. I still don't understand if Metis are included in the treaty that treaty indians are. I'm doubtful because there are still people in Canada who don't want to reconize metis as a true first nations people and Metis only exist in Canada. It seems that people down in the states (INS) think that Metis is just another tribe of indians and asume its included.

I believe that all status "indians" (read indian, inuit and metis) hold special status under the US constitution and are entitled to special status vis-a-vis voting and citizenship regarless of country of origin (read Canada or USA) WRT joining the US armed forces.  In fact a native citizen of Alberta is running for some state office in Hawaii due to the fact that the US constitution considers all North American Natives as citizens of the US.  Just a thought. :salute:

i was just talking to an american recruiter about the process and he said u have to have citezenship, and a grade 12 education and the ownly way to get american citezenship is to get sponsored by an employer or family member or atleast thats what i was just told by us immagration.

anyways my grandmother has dual citezenship so i hope that is enough to get me sponsored. Either that or keep waiting for the  damn canadian army to get there shit together and give me a call

or save up that money to fly to france either way it seems like a long road ahead of me

m payne, I believe you can only be sponsered by immediate family members, ie your parents, brother(s) an sister(s), husband or wife.

Well, INS didn't mention that to me when they listed of who could be a sponser.
